Armenians constitute the main population of Armenia and the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. There is a wide-ranging diaspora of around 5 million people of full or partial Armenian ancestry living outside of modern Armenia. The largest Armenian populations today exist in Russia, the United States, France, Georgia, Iran, Ukraine, Lebanon, and Syria. With the exceptions of Iran and the former Soviet states, the present-day Armenian diaspora was formed mainly as a result of the Armenian Genocide.
Linguists classify Armenian as an independent branch of the Indo-European language family. It is of interest to linguists for its distinctive phonological developments within the Indo-European languages. Armenian shares a number of major innovations with Greek, and some linguists group these two languages with Phrygian and the Indo-Iranian family into a higher-level subgroup of Indo-European, which is defined by such shared innovations as the augment. More recently, others have proposed a Balkan grouping including Greek, Phrygian, Armenian, and Albanian.

Armenia, Azerbaijan leaders argue in front of Putin at Moscow meeting
The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia argued openly in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in testy exchanges that underlined the extent of their dispute over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
During a meeting in Moscow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan raised the issue of the Lachin corridor while Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev listened to his concerns with a smirk, before Putin closed off the conversation, noting that the topic was sensitive.
"We will now have the opportunity, as we agreed, to talk about everything calmly in a businesslike manner in a trilateral format," Putin said before turning to other matters.

Historic Armenian Quarter in Jerusalem Facing Demolition in Luxury Hotel Dispute
JERUSALEM - Here in Jerusalem's Armenian Quarter, an ancient Christian community is fighting to protect its historic land. They're resisting an attempt to put a hotel on property they've owned for centuries, and they believe the issue raises broader concerns for the Christian presence in the city.
The Armenian Quarter, with its ancient heritage, is facing a land dispute that has implications beyond these ancient walls. A land deal with a Jewish businessman leased a large portion of the Armenian quarter of the old city, and the investor plans a luxury hotel that would demolish homes where Armenians have lived for centuries.
Armenian Resident Garo Nalbandian told CBN News, "My family comes in 1920s after the Turkish massacres. My father come along with the sister without their families."

Nagorno-Karabakh is a mountainous area in the Caucasus region between Europe and Asia. For more than 30 years, it's been locked in a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The fight between the two countries began in the early 20th century but became a frozen conflict for 60 years while the whole region was under the control of the Soviet Union.
When the Soviet Union fell, newfound independence sparked a brutal six-year war in the region, where Armenia emerged victorious. From 1994 to 2020, Armenia controlled Nagorno-Karabakh, while Azerbaijan rebuilt its military. Fighting erupted again in summer 2020, and Azerbaijan went on the offensive — eventually capturing most of Nagorno-Karabakh and dramatically reshaping the region.

The Armenian Genocide - Forgotten History
Some nations have come to terms with their past regarding genocide, whether that was a direct government policy or implemented by individuals, such as the United States with the Native Americans, and Hungary, Romania, Germany and Austria with the Holocaust. However, Turkey was also a major contributor to these dark pages of history, and they have never come to terms let alone admitted that they either actively or even passively assisted in murdering collective groups, such as the Armenians. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

The 20th century had no shortage of terrible events that cast a shadow over people today. The deaths of over a million Armenians is one such tragedy. Armenia vs Azerbaijan: The Battle for the Armenian Homelands | Documentary
The Nagorno-Karabakh war left more than 4,500 Armenians dead and 15,000 injured.
The peace deal of November 2020 represented a heavy defeat for Armenia. While they kept control of the areas they held within Nagorno-Karabakh, they were forced to return the surrounding territories to Azerbaijan. Still, Armenians live in fear of losing what remains of their land. In Kornidzor, the villagers take turns to stand guard, day and night. These peasants have formed a militia, swapping their pitchforks for Kalashnikovs.
Tens of thousands of families fled the war. Some are now ensconced at the Golden Palace, a 5-star hotel in an upscale ski resort. Susanna is in room 221 with her husband and children. The mini-bar no longer stocks cognac or vodka mignonette; the family use it to store some lard and ...

Finding your roots? The story of Tatos Cartozian encapsulates the complex journey of Armenian-Americans in their pursuit of belonging within American society. Cartozian's experience epitomizes the delicate balance between assimilation and cultural preservation that defined Armenian-Americans' quest for acceptance. Their story serves as a poignant reminder of the multifaceted nature of racial identity and the struggles faced by immigrant communities in their search for a place to call home.
The mini-bar no longer stocks cognac or vodka mignonette; the family use it to store some lard and a few vegetables. Susanna has learned to sew, and now she ekes out a living, making down jackets for the wealthy skiers who come to the resort.
Tigran, 19, miraculously survived a drone attack. After six months in hospital, he is finally being reunited with his family. He is welcomed home by a traditional festival in his village. Meanwhile Iveta, an Armenian pop start and ex-Eurovision finalist, is preparing a big show at the opera, and has dedicated a new song to the conflict.

Their story serves as a poignant reminder of the multifaceted nature of racial identity and the struggles faced by immigrant communities in their search for a place to call home. Who counts as "white" ?

Come join me on a new docu-series that explores identity, racial tensions in the South during the 20th century, and the unique experiences of those who historically called Louisiana home.
My name is Danielle Romero, and all my life, I have romanticized Louisiana.
Growing up in New York, it represented a place where I could step back the sepia-toned life of my great grandmother, Lola Perot, who died before I was born.
Now, it was time to go back to Louisiana--although I had no idea what the truth would be or what questions to ask---who was Lola really? Who were we?

Armenian (հայերեն (reformed), հայերէն (classical), hayeren, pronounced [hɑjɛˈɾɛn]) is an Indo-European language and the sole member of an independent branch of that language family. It is the native language of the Armenian people and the official language of Armenia and the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. Historically spoken in the Armenian highlands, today Armenian is widely spoken throughout the Armenian diaspora. Armenian is written in its own writing system, the Armenian alphabet, introduced in 405 AD by the canonized saint Mesrop Mashtots. The estimated number of Armenian speakers worldwide is between five and seven million.

And where it leaves war-torn Nagorno-Karabakh.

Finding your roots? The story of Tatos Cartozian encapsulates the complex journey of Armenian-Americans in their pursuit of belonging within American society. Following a groundbreaking legal case in the early 20th century, Cartozian and his community were granted recognition as white, after initially being challenged by the US Governement.

If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.

** 3:55 - Many of us use the phrase բարի կեսօր [bar'i kesor] (good afternoon), but the phrase is not natural for the Armenian language. You could use բարի օր [bar'i or'] (good day) instead.
