Bo Seo, an author and two-time world debate champion, believes our public conversations are in crisis. To Seo, our arguing skills have collectively atrophied over recent decades, resulting in bad arguments that have caused many people to lose faith in the idea that productive disagreements are even possible.
That's why Seo suggests a framework called RISA — which stands for "Real, Important, Specific, and Aligned" — to help people pick their fights more wisely and to give conversations the best possible chance of success. RISA hel...

Logical Arguments - Modus Ponens & Modus Tollens
Modus Ponens and Modus Tollens are two logical argument forms. In either case, these have two premises and a conclusion. These argument forms are called valid, which means that if you accept the hypotheses, then it is valid to conclude the conclusion. This is distinct from having a sound argument which means not only is the structure logically valid, but additionally the premises are true. In this video we will learn how to analyze a written argument by its logical structure, as well as write out the truth table for Modus Ponens and Modus Tollens.
Modus Ponens:
if p, then q
p
Therefore, q
Modus Tollens:
If p, then q
Not q,
Therefore, Not p.

Americans are increasingly falling into the “tribal trap,” according to Dan Shapiro, author of “Negotiating the Nonnegotiable: How to Resolve Your Most Emotionally Charged Conflicts.”
The tribal trap often centers on politics. Those ensnared in it will do anything they can to shut down the other side in an effort to prove that their side is right, just, and the only way forward. But from abortion to immigration, the problem is often not what we’re arguing about, it’s how.
So, how can we have more productive conversations? In this Big Think interview, Shapiro uses his negotiating expertise to outline several strategies to escape the tribal trap and communicate effectively, including understanding the core values of the other side, listening intently to what they’re saying, conveying that you understand what they’re saying, and finding common ground.

He also has served on the faculty at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and at the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He is author of Negotiating the Nonnegotiable, which Matthew Bishop of the Economist Group called “quite simply, the best book I have ever read on negotiating in situations of extreme conflict.” He also is coauthor with Roger Fisher of the negotiation classic “Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate.”

We’ve all had conversations that started out friendly, then suddenly turned into an argument that made us feel attacked. The other person twists your words and uses little tricks to try to make you look dumb.
So today we’re going to break down a conversation just like that between Andrew Tate and Piers Morgan, to show you how to defend yourself in any argument, even if the other person is determined to make you look bad.
This video is NOT endorsing either of these people, it’s simply an analysis to teach you the tactics some people use to assert dominance in an argument.
