Cambodia's Temple Kingdom | The Mark Of Empire | Angkor
A thousand years ago, the Angkor Empire conquered large swathes of Southeast Asia to become one of the region's greatest powers. Host Peter Lee journeys through Cambodia to learn how life in Angkor still revolves around the ebb and flow of the floodwaters that come with the yearly monsoons, and how the ancient Khmer overcame the environmental challenge and became masters of engineering, building canals and reservoirs to act as flood defences and irrigation channels to boost their rice harvests. The Khmer also built a network of roads to exert their authority far and wide, and created a social system of education, taxation, and even healthcare that revolved around temples. Peter visits the Angkor Empire's crowning glory — Angkor Wat — the world's largest religious monument to see how it was...

The Khmer also built a network of roads to exert their authority far and wide, and created a social system of education, taxation, and even healthcare that revolved around temples. Peter visits the Angkor Empire's crowning glory — Angkor Wat — the world's largest religious monument to see how it was built, and how intricate carvings detailing life a thousand years ago are linked with a modern Cambodian tradition.

17:22 - Conclusion
Hey guys, today we are going to look at the mysterious Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia, which has many strange secrets hidden inside. Historians say it was built about 900 years ago with simple tools , but by the end of this video, I think you will agree with me that this is not true at all.
You may have already known that this is the largest religious monument in the world, but how big is this temple? The temple stretches more than 400 acres, that is more than three times the size of the entire Vatican city, or about 300 times the size of an American football field. So you can imagine the size of this temple. Even if we take out all the walking space and empty land, the sheer area covered by stone blocks is at least 10 Million Square Feet. And we are not looking at just a 2 dimensional ground area, we have to look at the volume in 3D because it is made of layers and layers of stone blocks, pillars, ceiling, and towers. The Iconic central towers in the middle, which almost look like drill bits, they are still the tallest structures in this city, even after all these years. The central tower is 213 feet tall, and this view is actually printed on the Flag of Cambodia.
So imagine what would be the sheer volume of rocks needed to build a temple which stretches for 10 million square feet and has a pyramidal height of more than 200 feet. If we calculate the weight of all the sandstone blocks which make up this pyramid, we get about 52 Million tons of rock. I have used a calculator to calculate this weight, using the density of sandstone. Now, we have already not included the rocks in the foundation, we have not included the millions of stone blocks going many feet deep in the moat, and the rocks placed around the moat. And that is already 52 Million tons of rock. Now what I am going to do is take only 20% of this number, so this way we know this is a very very conservative estimate, because Angkor Wat is not a true solid pyramid, there are lots of hollow spaces in between. Let us actually take even less than 20%, we will only take 10,000,000 tons. So this way we know at least this much of rocks would have been used to build the temple.
Okay, so why are we calculating the weight of the stone blocks in this temple? Because, archeologists and historians argue that the entire temple was built in just 37 years. You know the standard theory, people using chisels and hammers to build temples.
Now let us assume that these people worked from sunrise to sunset everyday for 37 years. So they worked straight for 12 hours with no breaks, they don't eat, they don't even blink, and no rainy days, no war, no festivals for 37 years. That is a total of 162,060 hours. So if you do the math, if you divide the amount of rocks by the number of hours, this is the answer we get, approximately 60 tons. This means that they would have to cut and place at least 60 tons of rock every hour. This is 1 Ton of rock every minute. So for every minute they have to measure, cut, carve, lift, place and align one ton of rock. This is simply IMPOSSIBLE. We cannot accomplish this even today, even with modern machinery, we have not yet developed the technology to cut, position and polish one ton of rock of every minute. That is more than 2000 pounds of rock every minute, or 1000 kilograms every minute.

LYRICS:
Dear friend I know you can't notice
But you don't have that sweet taste anymore
That made me forget it faded
Been too long since I last heard your voice
Tell me are you that happy by his side? Are you?
Tell the truth, speak to me
I know sometimes we used to fight
I know we were so different
But it was real
Ah, before watching all disappear
Day by day, day by day
I would prefer the pain of everything
Burning down, crashing down
The one who's going mad is me
All you have to think about is pleasing me
Forget about her
Forget those times
Now you're mine
You belong to me
The squeaking of the bed
Hearing the glass break
I decided to break everything
Now I don't feel sadness
We're together even if we're torn
Ah, before watching all disappear
Day by day, day by day
I would prefer the pain of everything
Burning down, crashing down
Everyone's asking if I am in love
In a certain way I am
Not how they think
I know you feel the same
Everyone's asking if I am in love
In a certain way I am
Not how they think
I know you feel the same
Ah, before watching all disappear

For other uses, see Bayon (disambiguation).
The Bayon (Khmer: ប្រាសាទបាយ័ន, Prasat Bayoăn [praːsaːt baːjŏən]) is a richly decorated Khmer temple related to Buddhism at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the King Jayavarman VII (Khmer: ព្រះបាទជ័យវរ្ម័នទី ៧), the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom (Khmer: អង្គរធំ).
The Bayon's most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and smiling stone faces of The Buddha - probably modeled on the face of King Jayavarman VII - on every side the many towers that jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. The main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (the JSA) has described the temple as "the most strik...

The target bird spices Top5 in Cambodia is Alexandrine parakeet, It is can find at Angkor Complex.
Dear Viewer,
Birdwatching often involves a significant auditory component, as many bird species are more easily detected and identified by ear than by eye. Most birdwatchers pursue this activity for recreational or social reasons, unlike ornithologists, who engage in the study of birds using formal scientific methods
We tried hard to capture this nice species deeply in the forest by using smart phone that connect to telescope, we please to share more videos of birds with its nature habitats to people around the world, so kindly contribute us by clicking view, LIKE, SHARE and Subscribe for more latest videos of beautiful birds, nature and other wildlife on the earth.

Millipede
As autumn approaches we see less of the critters that frequent the garden. This juvenile millipede is making his way to the fertile part of the garden. We are looking forward to creating our millipede page and free short courses! #onezootree

The main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (the JSA) has described the temple as "the most striking expression of the baroque style" of Khmer architecture, as contrasted with the classical style of Angkor Wat (Khmer: ប្រាសាទអង្គរវត្ត).

Hey guys, today we are going into an extraordinary ancient temple called Tirupperunthurai. And inside this temple, there are unbelievable carvings that can rewrite history.
When we enter this chamber, your eyes are naturally attracted the deity inside the chamber, but look on top of the doorway. On the lintel, you see a number of patterns. What are they? What do they mean? Are they meaningless patterns carved just for decoration? No, let us take a closer look at them.
In Chemistry classes, we learn about molecules made of different atoms, are these molecules? Or, are they simple flower designs? Don’t they remind you of stars in the sky? Yes, these are 27 Lunar stations called Nakshatras, you can see these stations in the night sky. Lunar station, that’s a fancy word, right? What is that? It is not a space station or something like that, take the sky or the ecliptic and you can split that into 27 segments using groups of stars as markers for each segment. Each segment is called a Nakshatra or a star system. Why? To calculate time, dates, seasons, everything can be done using these nakshatras. Today most people think that these are used solely for astrology.
But think about how ancient people calculate time during the night? Did they not have any indicators of how to tell time during night time? No, you can tell time by following the positions of stars, groups of stars, etc. So these nakshatras were also used in Astronomy.
But are these carvings really showing lunar stations? Or, am I just guessing? You can see these inscriptions here, these are written in ancient Tamil language, and I can read them even today, here it says “Uthram”, here it says “Pooram” it is called Poorva in Sanskrit. These are the names of the lunar stations or Nakshatras clearly written under each rectangle. And inside each rectangle, we can the shape and position of stars, so there is no doubt that these are in fact, nakshatras. And this script also tells us something important, this is an ancient script that is somewhat different from today’s script used in Tamil language. They have used a big circle to represent the ‘mm’ sound, this is not how we write Tamil today. This confirms that these carvings were done during ancient times.
But, these carvings are not supposed to exist in this ancient temple, they should not show these details. Why am I saying this? Look at this rectangle, this is called Magha, and you can clearly see 4 stars making up the Lunar station. This is called Regulus in Today’s astronomy, but the strange feature is that, Regulus or Magha will appear to be a single star for the naked eye. And only when you use a telescope, you realize that it is made of 4 stars Regulus A, B, C and D. Yet, these 4 stars and its positions are accurately carved under the name Magha. So, without using an advanced telescope, how could ancient builders carve these details?
Here is another one, this text says Revathi, which refers to ‘Zeta Piscium’ in modern astronomy. This is a ‘quintuple star system’ meaning it is made of 5 stars, quintuple means 5. But again, all these 5 stars are not visible to the naked eye and we need a telescope to see the 5 stars. But surprisingly, these 5 stars and their positions are carved accurately in this ancient temple.

Hey guys, today I am going to show you why many ancient temples have moats around them. You can take Angkor Wat, which is the largest Hindu temple in the world, and it is completely surrounded by water on all four sides. You can take the great Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur, and you can see a water body around it too. Many ancient temples are designed this way, but there should be a serious question popping in your mind right now.
A moat, by definition is a defense mechanism, it protects people inside it. If you look at Wikipedia, it says “historically to provide a structure with a preliminary line of defense.” Moats are typically used in castles, to prevent enemies from attacking them easily. But these are temples, these are places of worship, not castles or forts, kings and even common people don’t live inside these temples, so why were the moats necessary?
Archeologists and historians have cracked this a long time ago. Let us look under the Plan section of Angkor Wat in Wikipedia:
The temple is a representation of Mount Meru, the home of the gods according to Hindu mythology: the central quincunx of towers symbolises the five peaks of the mountain, and the walls and moat symbolize the surrounding mountain ranges and ocean.
So, it clearly states that the moat was just a representation of the sea surrounding the mythical mountain called Meru. So, you can see that ancient Hindus were making these elaborate structures, in fact mile long structures just to mimic an imaginary mountain called Meru. And if you are a Hindu, you know that lord Vishnu will always sleep in the middle of the sea of milk. So, the moat must have been an absolute requirement. There is even a huge carving of the churning of the sea of milk in Angkor wat Temple. You see this is how the ancient builders really thought. They had deep superstitious beliefs and to make these myths into a reality, they went through great pains, to make their fantasies real. This is why they built this massive moat to ensure that Lord Vishnu can reside in the sea of milk. If you believed this theory, you belong to the mainstream people. These kinds of theories are repeatedly mentioned in history books, Wikipedia, and documentaries, it sounds almost realistic, but in reality, it actually demeans the ancient builders. Why? Because it assumes that ancient builders did not build this gigantic moat for a scientific reason. The fact is, whoever built the largest religious structure in the world, would have been anything but unscientific.

Hey guys, today we are not going to see a historic site, we are going to go to a pre-historic site. What's the difference? A Pre-historic site is a site which goes back to the time where there is no writing or any other form of historical records. So, we are going to a site that’s at least 5000 years old. Pre-historic sites are very old, very rare and are extremely hard to find. We are going to a deep forest area known as Javvadhu hills in South India, this forest is protected by the Government.
The Javvadhu hills are known for its lack of facilities. But even before I begun the journey, in the surrounding, there are no hotels or restaurants, but the village women cook delicious food, and sell them on the street and people are extremely friendly and helpful. Locals stories are always fascinating to hear.
When we enter the Javvadhu hills, we can see the difference, outside we see heavily populated villages, but this forest is almost completely uninhabited. Here you can see how it looks outside the reserve forest and you can see it how it looks inside the protected area. Why is such a large area protected by the Government? Is there some mystery hidden from us? The paved roads end after a certain a point, and there are only small dirt roads, they are too narrow for my car. So, I borrowed a motorcycle, because I need to use these roads for many miles before reaching the hill. Nobody is allowed to settle and build homes in this forest area, there are only a few hundred tribal people who live here on forest resources. For a casual visitor, it is nothing but trees and hills. Or is it? The bike will only take you so far and you must be prepared to walk for several miles, through the woods. The Javvadhu hills are known for its exotic herbs, people affected with lung diseases come here to breathe this herb filled air. I have been walking for more than 2 hours now, and our prehistoric site is at the very top of a hill. I am walking through rocky areas which have some crazy slopes, If I am careless, the fall from here can be deadly.
