An ounce (abbreviated oz; apothecary symbol: ℥) is a unit of mass used in some systems of measurement.
Whilst various definitions have been used throughout history, two remain in common use: the avoirdupois ounce equal to approximately 28.3g and the troy ounce of about 31.1g. The avoirdupois ounce is widely used as part of the United States customary and British imperial systems, but the troy ounce is now only commonly used for the mass of precious metals such as gold.
Etymology
Ounce derives from Latinuncia, a unit that was one twelfth (1⁄12) of the Romanpound (libra). Ounce was borrowed twice: first into Old English as ynsan or yndsan from an unattested Vulgar Latin form with ts for c before i (palatalization) and second into Middle English through Anglo-Norman and Middle French (unce, once, ounce). The abbreviation oz came later from the cognate Italian word onza (now spelled oncia).
Inch comes from the same Latin word, but differs because it was borrowed into Old English and underwent i-mutation or umlaut (u→y) and palatalization (k→ch).
The snow leopard (Panthera unciasyn.Uncia uncia) is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. It is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species because, as of 2003, the size of the global population was estimated at 4,080–6,590 adults, of which fewer than 2,500 individuals may reproduce in the wild.
Drawing from the latest available data, the Global Snow Leopard and Eco-System Protection Program (GSLEP) uses an estimate of between 3,920 and 6,390 individuals in the wild.
Snow leopards inhabit alpine and subalpine zones at elevations from 3,000 to 4,500m (9,800 to 14,800ft). In the northern range countries, they also occur at lower elevations.
Taxonomically, the snow leopard was classified as Uncia uncia since the early 1930s. Based on genotyping studies, the cat has been considered a member of the genusPanthera since 2008. Two subspecies have been attributed, but genetic differences between the two have not been settled.
The uncia (Latin, "twelfth part") was a Roman currency worth 1/12 of an as.
Republican coin
By derivation, it was also the name of a bronzecoin valued at one-twelfth of an as produced during the Roman Republic. The uncia started as a Roman-Oscan weight of about 23 grams for a 273 gram pound, with Attic weight issues of about 27 grams under the libral standard for a 327 gram pound and was produced occasionally towards the beginning of Roman cast bronze coinage. Obverse types of the uncia include a knucklebone (ca. 289–245 BC), a barleycorn (ca. 280–245 BC), and the helmeted bust of Roma (from ca. 240 BC).
Empire coin
In imperial times the uncia was briefly revived under Trajan (98–117) and Hadrian (117–138). This coin was about 11–14mm in diameter and weighed about 0.8–1.2 grams. It featured the bust of the emperor on the obverse with no inscription and "SC" (for Senatu Consulto) in a wreath on the reverse. If this issue belonged to the imperial system, meaning it was not a provincial piece, it would be an uncia. This issue may have been made only for circulation in the East.
Cadence in sports involving running is the total number of 'revolutions per minute' (RPM), or number of full cycles taken within a minute, by the pair of feet, and is used as a measure of athletic performance. It is very similar in respect to cadence in cycling, however it is often overlooked in its importance in the sports of running and racewalking. This discrepancy may be attributable to other factors of importance in running, including stride length, technique, and other elements pertaining to bio-mechanical efficiency.
Note that in other sports such as weight lifting or bodybuilding, 'Cadence' can refer to the speed, or time taken to complete a single lift, rather than how many repetitions of a lift are completed.
In Westernmusical theory, a cadence (Latin cadentia, "a falling") is "a melodic or harmonic configuration that creates a sense of resolution [finality or pause]." A harmonic cadence is a progression of (at least) two chords that concludes a phrase, section, or piece of music. A rhythmic cadence is a characteristic rhythmic pattern that indicates the end of a phrase. A cadence is labeled more or less "weak" or "strong" depending on its sense of finality. While cadences are usually classified by specific chord or melodic progressions, the use of such progressions does not necessarily constitute a cadence—there must be a sense of closure, as at the end of a phrase. Harmonic rhythm plays an important part in determining where a cadence occurs.
Cadences are strong indicators of the tonic or central pitch of a passage or piece.Edward Lowinsky proposed that the cadence was the "cradle of tonality."
Classification of cadences in common practice tonality with examples
In music of the common practice period, cadences are divided into four types according to their harmonic progression: authentic, plagal, half, and deceptive. Typically, phrases end on authentic or half cadences, and the terms plagal and deceptive refer to motion that avoids or follows a phrase-ending cadence. Each cadence can be described using the Roman numeral system of naming chords:

Filmed on the Canon R5C and RF 800mm f5.6 L IS USM. With Snow Leopards sightings being as far as a mile away from me, even 1600mm with the 2x RF extender fell heavily short. Thanks to the super 35 crop mode on my 8k sensor, we were able to reach a filmable focal length of 2400mm in 5.9k RAW. Scaling that on a 4K DCI timeline, we reached an equivalent of 3360mm. Yeah, Snow Leopards can be far, man!

Snow Leopard: Beyond the Myth (2008)
A secret cave deep within the mountains of Pakistan is one of the last refuges of the snow leopard - the rarest and most beautiful of all the big cats. Journalist Nisar Malik has decided to use his news skills to help promote and protect this highly endangered species. Each year generations of snow leopards have returned to the mountains to raise their young. Harsh seasons force this predator and its prey to the lower reaches of the valleys where Nisar follows their hunting, feeding and mating behaviours. For Nisar, this is a journey of discovery in which he finds beauty and peace in a place that he previously portrayed as dangerous and evil. For the viewer, the film offers a journey into a misrepresented and unknown part of the world.

One last thing that you regretted, Before it fell apart, Despite your powers you hated being, A stupid rock star, Kitty Pryde so sweet and innocent, You're all we talk about, We know you'd rather raise another demon, Than sooth your own faults. And I can see your demon burning in me, Little chief, pull out your teeth and, When it burns, the words inside, Ounce of prevention that scars my eyes. And I can feel the human I had once been, Screaming for your mercy, When it burns the words inside, Ounce of prevention, it's scars that make you civilised!
