The American League Central is one of six divisions in Major League Baseball. This division was formed in the realignment in 1994, and its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. The Central is currently the only division in the Major Leagues in which all of its members have two or more World Series wins.
Place cursor over year for division champ or World Series team.
Champions by year
The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals are the only teams from the AL Central division to have won the World Series since the league realignment in 1994.
The WHL's Central Division was formed in 2001 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment, the predecessor of which was the Central Division. As its name suggests, the division predominantly consists of the five Alberta teams. In 2004, A minor change saw the Kootenay Ice move to the Central Division to accommodate the expansion Chilliwack Bruins. Prior to the 2007-08 season which saw the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings join, the Swift Current Broncos moved to the East Division to accommodate the team. The aforementioned league realignment divided the WHL into two conferences of two divisions each: Eastern Conference: East Division; Central Division; Western Conference: B.C. Division; and the U.S. Division.
The London Lightning won the inaugural Central Division title with a 33-7 division record.
2013-14
Following the 2012-13 season, the Montreal Jazz switched divisions from central to Atlantic but before the season started, the NBL Board of Governors announced that the Montreal Jazz would sit out the 2013-14 NBL Canada season after failing to secure new ownership. The expansion team, the Brampton A's and the Ottawa SkyHawks, were placed in the Central Division. The Windsor Express won the Central Division with a league best 29-11 record.
2014-15
The Central Division was reduced to four teams with the folding of the Ottawa SkyHawks.
The Windsor Express repeated as Central Division champions with a league best 21-11 record.
MLB Network insider Jon Morosi breaks down the AL Central and shares how he would power rank the teams heading into the new year.

**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Central Division.
On February 20, 2024, at around 8:40 p.m., Central Division patrol officers responded to a radio call for an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon” suspect at an apartment in the 400 block of East 5th Street. The comments of the call indicated that the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Anthony Franks, threatened his neighbor with a gun.
Once officers arrived at the location, the Person Reporting (PR) informed the officers that Franks pointed a gun at her. During this brief interaction, Franks emerged from the doorway of his apartment with what appeared to be a pistol (later determined to be a Projectile Launcher). Franks pointed and fired the weapon at the officers and the PR, which resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Franks was not struck by gunfire and immediately retreated back into his apartment. Officers broadcast a “shots fired, officer needs help” call and additional officers responded to the scene.
After a brief standoff, telephone contact was made with Franks and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators released surveillance video from inside the apartment building showing Franks fire his weapon at the officers.
A weapon (in the appearance of a semi-automatic pistol) capable of firing .50 caliber rubber balls and a jar of .50 caliber rubber balls were recovered at scene. Additionally, a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun was also recovered from Franks’ apartment.
All items were booked as evidence.
No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.

Officer-Involved Shooting in Central Division
Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's Operations-Central Bureau homicide detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a murder suspect captured on video.

When the officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect were inside a restaurant and had an argument with eachother. The suspect stabbed the victim and then fled on foot. The suspect was last seen walking on 7th Street towards Los Angeles Street.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital where the victim succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect is described as a male, African American, 40-50 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, dark hair and heavy build. He was last seen wearing a grey baseball cap, black jacket, red plaid shirt, and blue jeans.
