The Popes of the era were notoriously corrupt and morally depraved. These actions eventually gave rise to the movement to reform the church, culminating in the Protestant Reformation and the religious wars that followed.

When discussing the Italian Renaissance, it’s impossible to overlook the role of the Popes. The Renaissance reached its peak in Rome, with the Popes serving as its greatest patrons. At first glance, the fact that Popes supported the Renaissance might seem unremarkable, but upon closer reflection, one has to wonder how these Popes could use church funds to purchase pagan sculptures like Apollo and Venus and displayed them in the Vatican. The Popes of the era were notoriously corrupt and morally depraved. These actions eventually gave rise to the movement to reform the church, culminating in the Protestant Reformation and the religious wars that followed.
This phenomenon occurred during the era of the "secular Popes," a time when popes were not much different from secular figures. In this video, we will introduce one of the most notorious popes of this era: Alexander VI. Get ready, as a series of jaw-dropping, are about to unfold!
