Skarsgård was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He is the oldest son of actor Stellan Skarsgård and his first wife, My, a physician. He has five younger siblings: Gustaf, Sam, Bill, Eija and Valter, and two half-brothers, Ossian and Kolbjörn. Gustaf, Bill, and Valter are also actors.
A friend of his father, who was a director, gave Skarsgård his first film role when he was seven years old. He played Kalle Nubb in Åke och hans värld (Åke and His World). In 1989, the lead role in the Swedish television production Hunden som log (The Dog That Smiled) made him famous in Sweden at the age of thirteen. Uncomfortable with being recognized, he quit acting for the next seven years.
California has been well received by critics. A positive review came from Pitchfork, who called it "one of those albums that you can't believe a major label had anything to do with", writing, "the more I listen to California, the more I'm convinced that Mike Patton is really the devil on holiday."
Accolades
Feud with the Red Hot Chili Peppers
California was originally scheduled for release on June 8, 1999, but Warner delayed it by several days so as not to coincide with RHCP's similarly titled album Californication. During the summer and fall tour to promote the album, Mr. Bungle's agent booked the group for several major music festivals in Europe, but the band got removed from all of them at the last minute, apparently at the behest of RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis (because they were the headlining band, they retained the right to choose what acts could and couldn't perform with them). The incident was a resurfacing of an old quarrel between RHCP and Mike Patton's previous group Faith No More that had occurred in 1989 when Kiedis accused Patton of copying his mannerisms on stage, especially in the music video for the song Epic.
Vanity Fair: A Novel without a Hero is a novel by English author William Makepeace Thackeray, first published in 1847–48, satirising society in early 19th-century Britain. It follows the lives of two women, Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley, amid their friends and family. The novel is now considered a classic, and has inspired several film adaptations. In 2003, Vanity Fair was listed at #122 on the BBC's The Big Read poll of the UK's best-loved books.
Title
The book's title comes from John Bunyan's allegorical story The Pilgrim's Progress, first published in 1678 and still widely read at the time of Thackeray's novel. In that work, "Vanity Fair" refers to a stop along the pilgrim's route: a never-ending fair held in a town called Vanity, which is meant to represent man's sinful attachment to worldly things.
Plot summary
Rebecca Sharp ("Becky") is a strong-willed, cunning, moneyless, young woman determined to make her way in society. After leaving school, Becky stays with Amelia Sedley ("Emmy"), who is a good-natured, simple-minded young girl, of a wealthy City family. There, Becky meets the dashing and self-obsessed Captain George Osborne (Amelia's betrothed) and Amelia's brother Joseph ("Jos") Sedley, a clumsy and vainglorious but rich civil servant home from the East India Company. Hoping to marry Sedley, the richest young man she has met, Becky entices him, but she fails. George Osborne's friend Captain William Dobbin loves Amelia, but only wishes her happiness, which is centred on George.

"A more laid-back offering from Mike Patton's lunatics. THEY'RE CLEVER buggers, those chaps in Mr. Bungle. For while they specialize in the art of melting brains by composing some of the most twisted music imaginable, one gets the feeling that they're not even trying. The bastards. Having spent the last few years attending to other projects - Faith No More, Fantomas, Secret Chiefs 3, for starters - Mike Patton's mob are back with their third album, 'California', and it's as loopy & (surprisingly) laid-back as its namesake. Neither as heavy as their 1990 debut nor as psychotic as 1995's 'Disco Volante', 'California' comes off like the soundtrack to a Middle Eastern surf movie in which one-eyed, crack-smoking dwarfs massacre the Beach Boys. Jazz, metal, bebop, gospel, soul, country, pop & surf-rock combine to make one eye-twitching ride: witness the chop-change madness of 'Ars Moriendi' & 'The Air-Conditioned Nightmare'. Only on the FNM-esque 'Retrovertigo' & 'Pink Cigarette' does some semblance of sanity enter the equation. While lacking in any massive distorted rifferama - 'Goodbye Sober Day' is the brilliant exception. 'California' is arguably Mr. Bungle's most beguiling effort to date. Song-focused without sacrificing any of their trademark quirk, that line between genius & madness just got fainter." -Kerrang!

Money money Welcome to my new and improved life On the darkside Climbing in the neverending stairs of gold Just trying to grab and hold It's all good My face on the magazine Limelights And everybody's loving me I made a deal with these so called friends of mine And now I burn art Like I'll burn all the bridges behind All bridges behind... (3x) kertosäe: I'm all over and I've got it going I will turn my soul into profit I'm all over and I've got it going I'll make it happen just the way you want it, yeah! All over not gotta going, gotta going, gotta going... Money, girls, cars Is what they promised me Got none of them Just this new type of captivity I went through the wheels of machinery And now I'm half the man I used to be That I used to be...
