Alan Jones defends position on coronavirus following 'absolute rubbish claim'
Sky News host Alan Jones has defended himself against the "absolute rubbish" claim he argues coronavirus is nothing more than a flu.
"I note a newspaper story that says that I have always argued that the coronavirus is nothing more than a flu and therefore how irresponsible am I," Mr Jones said.
"That, of course, is absolute rubbish.
Mr Jones said he has regularly quoted the Prime Minister himself in an address to the nation from March 15 2020.
In that speech the prime minister said "the truth is that while many people will contract this virus that it’s clear, just as people get the flu each year, it is a more severe condition than the flu, but for the vast majority ... around 8 in 10 is our advice, it will be a mild illness and it will pass."

‘Don’t march, don’t protest’: Alan Jones calls for Australians in lockdown to obey the law
Sky News host Alan Jones has called for people to not participate in any illegal protests following the scenes across major cities on the weekend.
Mr Jones assessed the recent anti-lockdown protests and said, “at no stage” has he ever “condoned anything that is illegal.”
“And certainly not illegal protests.”
In cities across the country over the weekend, thousands of angry protesters breached COVID-19 restrictions to gather in crowds demanding an end to the lockdowns.
Sky News understands more protests are being planned for this weekend.
“If as is the case, the Police Commissioner in New South Wales Mick Fuller, a very decent man, is telling people this weekend not to protest, which presumably according to the language means that any such protest would be illegal, then there must be n...

The mounting accusations against Alan Jones
For decades, radio broadcaster Alan Jones was king of the airwaves. Often using a bullying and vitriolic tone on his show, he held powerful figures up to scrutiny. And even while rumours about questionable behaviour towards young men swirled over the years, Alan Jones remained one of the most influential and feared figures in the country.
Now, a major investigation can reveal allegations that Jones used his position of power to prey on a number of young men; allegedly indecently assaulting, groping or inappropriately touching them without their consent. Jones has strenuously denied the allegations.
Today, chief investigative reporter Kate McClymont on her years-long investigation into Alan Jones — and what it says about our wider culture that he's being held to account now.

"I have never said the virus was only a flu I've merely argued the prime minister's position," Mr Jones said.
"This business about me saying coronavirus was nothing more than a flu is not borne out by my persistent references to the Prime Minister's own statement to the nation on March 15 last year as I've indicated above."

“And certainly not illegal protests.”
In cities across the country over the weekend, thousands of angry protesters breached COVID-19 restrictions to gather in crowds demanding an end to the lockdowns.
Sky News understands more protests are being planned for this weekend.
“If as is the case, the Police Commissioner in New South Wales Mick Fuller, a very decent man, is telling people this weekend not to protest, which presumably according to the language means that any such protest would be illegal, then there must be no illegal protests,” Mr Jones said.
“That is simple.
“If the Police Commissioner is saying don’t, and, what’s more, anyone defying him will be met with the full force of the law, then my simple statement is, you don’t break the law, you don’t provoke the police and you don’t protest.
“Don’t march, don’t protest, don’t promote violence, don’t defy the police.”
Mr Jones, who has been vaccinated against COVID-19, called for the New South Wales government to show "decency and proportion" in its response to coronavirus.
"People can’t get vaccinated, even if they want to," he said.
"And we are told if the nation is not vaccinated, it won’t open up.
"So the battler is punished because of government incompetence."
