Ed McCurdy (January 11, 1919 – March 23, 2000) was an American folksinger, songwriter, and televisionactor. His most well-known song was the anti-war "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream", written in 1950.
Career
Born to a farming family in Willow Hill, Franklin, Pennsylvania, McCurdy left home at 18 to pursue a singing career. He first found success in 1938 as a singer and disc jockey at a gospel radio station in Oklahoma. By the early 1940s, McCurdy had become a popular singer of romantic songs in nightclubs across North America, until vaudeville dancer Sally Rand caught his act, hired him to join her show, put him in a tuxedo and had him sing his romantic songs to her on stage while pushing her on her swing. He stayed in vaudeville for several years as a singer and straight man to comedian (Fat) Jack E. Leonard, before moving in 1948, with his Canadian dancer wife and family, to Vancouver where he hosted his own radio show for CBC Radio. With the success of this show, the CBC transferred him to the flagship national station in Toronto where he starred in a morning children's show and an adult evening show. During his Canadian radio period, he developed friendships with the guests on his show, such as Pete Seeger, Lena Horne, Josh White, Oscar Peterson, and Oscar Brand. He also developed a love for folk music and released his first folk album in 1949.
Hove/ˈhoʊv/ is a town on the south coast of England, immediately to the west of its larger neighbour Brighton, with which it forms the unitary authorityBrighton and Hove. It forms a single conurbation together with Brighton and some smaller towns and villages running along the coast. As part of local government reform Brighton and Hove were merged to form the borough of Brighton and Hove in 1997. In 2000 the conjoined towns officially attained city status.
Hove is bordered by Brighton to the east and Portslade-by-Sea in the west, the distance between the boundaries being some 2.25 miles (3.75 kilometres).
History and development
Pre-Roman evidence
During mid 19th-century building work near Palmeira Square, workmen levelled a substantial burial mound. A prominent feature of the landscape since 1200 BC, this 20 feet (6.1m)-high tumulus yielded – among other treasures – the Hove amber cup. Made of translucent red Baltic Amber and approximately the same size as a regular china tea cup, the artefact can be seen in the Hove Museum and Art Gallery.
The constituency covers Hove and Portslade in the city of Brighton and Hove. The constituency was coterminous with the former Borough of Hove from 1974 to 1997.
Constituency profile
The settlement of Hove is an economically active seaside resort which is both a commuter town and centred in an area of high local employment, stretching from Portsmouth to London Gatwick Airport. The seat acted as a bellwether of the national result between 1979 and 2010.
Living in Brighton & Hove | Lifestyle | Travel Guide | Cost of living...But we are leaving
We are trying to find the most suitable city in the UK to call home. Brighton was the first city we wanted to try because of the location, weather and reputation, so we lived in Brighton and Hove for the past three months. We think Brighton is great and the weather is good for the UK, the shops are super cute too. Let's say we love every bit of it. However, the living cost is pretty high, not dissimilar to London. We paid £1400/month for a one-bedroom flat. Bus tickets are £2.50 for a single trip and parking can be difficult to find if you don't have a resident permit.

Exploring HOVE, the often forgotten part of Brighton & Hove
In this vlog, I explore parts of Hove, the often forgotten part of Brighton and Hove. Yes, it is one city! However, most people who venture to the area mainly visit Brighton, so I would like to show you that Hove can be a very interesting place to visit as well.
I show you an interesting monument with a special geographic connotation and tell you about the history of architecture and a church in the area. We also visit a cricket stadium, the town centre and main shopping street as well as a garden with a very interesting myth as to how it got its name.
Let's go and explore!

Hove Church Road area 1988
Shot in September 1988, this footage shows just how much (and how little) has changed in the Church Road area of Hove. It includes a drive along Church Road from the end of Western Road to return our rented video camera to the Multibroadcast shop in Blatchington Road.
I've sped up lots of sequences to make them more interesting.
This is just a small edited part of 5 hours of footage shot in 1988 by me and my friend David in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas, for a spoof docu-feature we never completed. It is now of some historical significance, so we're releasing it.
Rather than let you hear the film-makers' comments, sometimes hilarious, usually banal, often puerile, I decided to replace the soundtrack with some music by Kevin MacLeod.

SONG PREVIEW:
This song is about a relationship that was referenced to a book. How I love the book im reading but I hate the chapter/part of the book im at. Its about wanting to put the book down but with all the chemistry it makes it hard. The longer im into this book the further im going to sink if i dont eventually put it on the shelf. thank you for listening! let me know what you guys think. Much Love.
