Certain surnames, with Bewick being an example of this, are derived from the name of a small community. It is believed smaller towns and villages were taken as surnames by those families migrating from these rural communities to the larger cities, and the need for new arrivals to choose a defining surname.
It is a common misconception that there is one coat of arms associated to everyone of a common surname, when, in fact, a coat of arms is property passed through direct lineage. This means that there are numerous families of Buick, perhaps under various spellings, that are related, but because they are not the direct descendants of a Buick that owned an armorial device do not have rights or claims to any arms themselves.
A brake is a metalworking machine that allows the bending of sheet metal. A cornice brake only allows for simple bends and creases, while a box-and-pan brake also allows one to form box and pan shapes. It is also known as a bending machine or bending brake or in Britain as a sheet metal folder or just a folder.
Description
The brake consists of a flat surface onto which the material is placed, and a clamping bar which will come down and hold the material firmly during the bend. This clamping action may be manual, automatic or operated using a foot pedal. The front, gate-like, plate of the machine is hinged and may be lifted, forcing the material extended over a straight edge to bend to follow the plate.
The bends can be to any angle up to a practical limit of about 120 degrees, somewhat more in the case of a bar folder. If the area to be bent is narrow enough, a sharper bend (e.g., for a hem) can be made by inserting the bend under the clamping bar and lowering it.
"Brake" is a science fictionshort story by Poul Anderson that was first published in 1957 in Astounding Science Fiction and reprinted in the collections Beyond the Beyond (1969) and The Psychotechnic League (1981). As a component of the Psychotechnic Leaguefuture history / alternate history, "Brake" takes place in 2270, as the civilization built up in the aftermath of the 1958 Third World War is being torn between mutually antagonistic factions, on the verge of collapsing into "the day of genocide and the night of ignorance and tyranny".
As noted by Vernon Blake, the story was written and published within two months of "Marius" and they were clearly written as companion pieces - the dawn and sunset of the same culture (later stories of this Future History would be set in the further future, when a still newer civilization would arise from the ruins of what would be called "The Second Dark Ages").
Marius and Brake are linked by various common themes - one featuring the first appearance of the maquis Stefan Rostomily, the other having the last appearance of Rostomily's cloned "sons"; in one Étienne Fourre appears for the first time, in his heroic effort to restore the shattered world, in the other the memory of Fourre is abused and his legacy is claimed by one of the militant factions busily working to shatter it again. In fact, it is Captain Banning, the story' protagonist, who is Fourre's true heir, bravely striving to preserve, for as long as possible, what Fourre and his companions had built.
Brake (German pronunciation:[ˈbʁaːkə]) is the district seat of Wesermarsch district in northern Germany.
Geography
Brake lies in the centre of the square formed by Bremerhaven, Bremen, Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. With its position up from the North Sea on the lower Weser, which can accommodate ocean-going ships, its proximity to AutobahnenA29 and A27 as well as to Bremen Airport, this port city has a favourable infrastructure supporting land, sea, and air travel. Moreover, railway lines leading to Nordenham and Oldenburg/Bremen fill out the city's transport connections.
With the Weser tunnel to the north, which was opened to road traffic in January 2004, Brake was given even better connections to the region's Autobahn network. However, since cyclists and pedestrians may not use the tunnel, and since the ferry service across the river Weser was cut back after the tunnel's opening, those on bicycles or on foot suffer a distinct disadvantage to their mobility in the region.

Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater's master of Moog modulars, fires up the awesome Moog System 55 modular synth in this exclusive preview. At various points, Daniel is playing the System 55 through a TC Electronic Flashback Delay.
The era of the Moog modular synthesizer was long ago and far too short, but for a limited time, you too can own one of these amazing systems. This System 55 re-creates the popular Moog Synthesizer 55 as true to 1964 spec as possible. The hand-wired modules that comprise this legendary synth are loaded into two beautiful, hand-finished walnut cabinets. Bundled with Moog's model 953 Keyboard, the System 55 delivers enough sound-shaping mojo to satisfy the most ardent synth maven. The Moog System 55 is in extremely short supply.

Like An Overcoat, MW Bewick
Like An Overcoat, read here by the author, is taken from MW Bewick's second collection of poetry, Pomes Flixus.
The new poetry book follows Bewick's debut collection Scarecrow (2017) ans is published on 25 May 2020. For more details, see http://www.dunlinpress.com and mwbewick.com
The poems in Pomes Flixus are a collision of constantly shifting perspectives and descriptive transitions that transport the mind to unexpected places, undercut preconceptions and arrive, often poignantly, in non-culminations. Found phrases, pop and classical references, the avant-garde, below-the-line commentary, the vocabulary of finance and marketing, all co-exist alongside depictions of the natural world and the suburban everyday. Found phrases, pop and classical references, the avant-garde, below-the-line commentary, the vocabulary of finance and marketing, all co-exist alongside depictions of the natural world and the suburban everyday. The impressionistic vignettes, whether seeing a leaf on a path, waiting at a station, remembering absent friends, or watching the rain, never seek to define. Instead, they celebrate ambiguity and the subjectivity of thought that underpins our temporal experience of the world. Beneath the heteroglossia and aleatory effects, is a series of sometimes startling evocations of life in the modern world, sharp with considerations of culture, class and the use of language itself.

Lyrics:
I LIKE THE WAY MOVE
I LIKE THE WAY YOU DRESS, AND UNDRESS TOO
I LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE
AND HOW YOU F**K AWAY THE PAIN
I LOVE THE WAY YOU DANCE AS IF YOU’RE JUST PASSING THROUGH
BUT HOWEVER MUCH I LOVE YOU BABE
HOWEVER MUCH I LOVE YOU BABY
I LOVE MY SYNTHESIZER MORE
I LOVE MY SYNTHESIZER MORE X2
I LIKE THE WAY YOU TOUCH
YOU WRAP MY HEART IN GOLD
LOVE WHEN YOU COME TO CALL
LIKE A CAT IN FROM THE COLD
BUT HOWEVER MUCH I LOVE YOU BABE
HOWEVER MUCH I LOVE YOU BABY
I LOVE MY SYNTHESIZER MORE
I LOVE MY SYNTHESIZER MORE X2
I LOVE YOU BABY EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU
I DON’T KNOW ANYONE LIKE YOU
I LOVE YOU BABY, I LOVE YOU BABY

In this video, Berklee Online instructor Erin Barra explains the synthesizer basics on amplitude, filters, envelopes, oscillators, frequency, timbre, LFO, and modulation. She goes into detail about how amplitude works, how an envelope shapes the evolution of a sound, how oscillators work in synthesizers, and how frequency is really just the number of times a waveform repeats each second and is measured.
