Bakersfield is in Kern County which is generally considered part of Southern California and shares its southern border with Los Angeles County. However, many residents consider Bakersfield to be more a part of Central California as it is near Kings and Tulare counties and is a hub for agriculture and oil production.
The initial 2005 Environmental Impact Report for the system considered two general alignments for the Fresno to Bakersfield segment: one following the BNSF Railway right-of-way down the center of the Central Valley, and another following the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way farther to the east. The BNSF alignment was chosen because it avoided urban areas, making it less expensive and having fewer constructibility concerns. The preferred Bakersfield station option co-located it with the existing Bakersfield station at Truxtun Avenue due to its central location and connectivity with existing transportation. The city of Bakersfield had endorsed the Truxtun Avenue station location in 2003, but reversed its position in 2011 to oppose the High-Speed Rail project due to concerns on the impact to new facilities and revitalization to the downtown area that had occurred in the interim.
The Bakersfield Amtrak Station is a train station in Bakersfield, California. It is the southern terminus of Amtrak's San Joaquin route operated by Amtrak California, with Thruway Motorcoach service continuing to Amtrak stations and bus stops throughout Southern California and Nevada. The station opened with a celebration on July 4, 2000. It contains an 8,300 square feet (770m2) station, 2 tracks, and a 15-bay bus station.
The original operator for train service on this line was the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. Their station was located at the intersection of 15th Street and F Street (about 0.9 miles west). It was constructed in 1899 and demolished in 1972. Named Santa Fe passenger trains served at the station included the San Francisco Chief, and Golden Gate. Starting in 1974, Amtrak operated out of a temporary station at that site, until this station was constructed.
History
Construction of the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley Railroad reached Bakersfield in 1898, and was completed in 1899. However, they would not construct a train station in the city, because once completed, the railroad was purchased by Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. It would also obtained trackage rights over Tehachapi Pass from the Southern Pacific Railroad. They constructed the Bakersfield Santa Fe Station in 1899, at the intersection of F Street and 15th Street.

We have big companies here, we have small companies. And we are getting an Amazon Distribution Center here as well. Not sure if we're going to have same day delivery, but if we do that would be so cool. That is supposed to be open by the end of 2019. So exciting.

If you want to go to Northern California to cities like Fresno, Modesto, the Bay Area you're looking at another day trip, 3 to 4 hours.
If you don't want to drive that far, the Kern River is in our backyard. And it runs all the way through town.
We have lots of activities for kids as well. California Living Museum and the Kern County Museum are favorites.
And last but not least, Homeownership. Owning a home here in Bakersfield is hot commodity here in the State of California. If you're looking for a retirement community here in Bakersfield, we have many of those as well.
If you're a millennial then this is the place for you too.
The National Association of Realtors put out an article that stated Bakersfield is THE place to move if you're a first time home buying millennial. You can own a home in a community with a Homeowners Association or just a regular house all on its own. Or if you want New Construction that is here as well...whatever your price point, we have it here,

Aerial drone flying over Bakersfield, California shows some great views not seen from the ground. Great city :) I hope you enjoy and subscribe to this YouTube drone channel while seeing my travels from an aerial view above nature, towns and cities in the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, US, Canada, and several islands @ www.YouTube.com/JamesBeBop . Or please visit my photo website with photos of 49 countries/islands, all 50 states and all but one province in Canada that I could not drive through at www.JGlowacki.com . I love to drive throughout the world whether on the right or left with either left-hand steering or right-hand steering and of course I have become accustomed to using a stick-shift with both hands :) I truly enjoy the great food and discussions with locals where I have been blessed to travel. Included on this channel are some driving and snorkeling videos and even a couple bike rides I recorded.
You can also see my beginning drone videos looking at 2016 dates when I filmed in safe nature areas. I practiced how to crash safely, how to fly with three propellers and how to ground the drone and drive to it. I practiced in snow, rain and extreme cold to make sure I understood the drones limitations before I went to the big cities. I handle a drone like I do a gun and I truly hope others do the same.
Please share your thoughts with me; even if they are not easy to read, I need to know how I am meeting your expectations 😊
Thank you,
James

High Speed Rail vs. Air vs. Car: Canada Edition! Toronto to Montreal on Canada High Speed Railway
What are the prospects of a Canada High Speed Railway? High Speed Rail in North America has so far been limited to the Acela corridor in the northeastern United States, which some would argue still doesn't meet the standard of true high speed rail. In previous videos we walked through an example trip on California High Speed Rail, and ran a race from Dallas to Houston on the proposed Texas Central railway. In this video we take a fresh look at the potential for high speed rail between Canada's two largest cities, Toronto and Montreal, comparing it to existing rail service as well as the recently proposed High Frequency Rail plan. And, of course, we pit three travelers against one another in a race by train, car, and airplane.
This video drills down into the details of an example trip betw...

This video drills down into the details of an example trip between Toronto and Montreal, following the journeys of three hypothetical travelers on their way from Greater Toronto (including Hamilton and Oshawa, by the way!) to Bell Centre in downtown Montreal. Along the way, and we compare their journeys step by step, and look more broadly at the argument for high speed rail in Canada by comparing to other successful HSR city pairs like Milan-Rome, Madrid-Barcelona, and Paris-Bordeaux, and praising Canada's ahead-of-the-curve (well, for North America) transit connections.
Our video includes overviews of:
- Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ)
- Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)
- Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL)
- Toronto Union Station (likely stop on any future high speed rail connection)
- Montreal Centrale Station (likely stop on any future high speed rail connection)
And, of course, we finish by crowning a winner!

Top Things to Know About Bakersfield, California.
All Right! So you're thinking about moving to Bakersfield! You're going to get asked some questions like: Does it get hot there? Where is it again? And, what do you do there?
Yes, it does get hot here!
We have big companies here, we have small companies. And we are getting an Amazon Distribution Center here as well. Not sure if we're going to have same day delivery, but if we do that would be so cool. That is supposed to be open by the end of 2019. So exciting.
The next thing to know about living here in Bakersfield is that you can get to Southern California in less than 2 hours. You can get to Chavez Ravine if you want to see the Dodgers.

Thank you,
James

Let me know in the comments some places you would like to see in the next video of Bakersfield or Kern County.
Bakersfield is a charter city in Kern County, California, United States. It is the county seat and largest city of Kern County. The city covers about 151 sq mi (390 km2) near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley and the Central Valley region. Bakersfield's population as of the last official United States Census in 2010 is 347,483. making it the 52nd-most populous city in the United States of America and the 9th-most populous city in California. The Bakersfield–Delano Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Kern County, had a 2010 census population of 839,631, making it the 62nd-largest metropolitan area in the United States.[15] The more built-up portion of the metro area that includes Bakersfield and areas immediately around the city, such as East Bakersfield, Oildale and Rosedale, has a population of 523,994.
Bakersfield is a significant hub for both agriculture and energy production. Kern County is the most productive oil-producing county and the fourth-most productive agricultural county (by value) in the United States. Industries in and around Bakersfield include natural gas and other energy extraction, mining, petroleum refining, distribution, food processing, and corporate regional offices.
Let's explore the world through Google Street View.
Today we are visiting Bakersfield California in the USA. This was a pretty nice town to check out. Nice and wide open, huge surrounding mountains, plenty of shopping, and of course plenty of sun. Interesting to see the oil production happening just north of the city. Check it out!

Bakersfield is in Kern County which is generally considered part of Southern California and shares its southern border with Los Angeles County. However, many residents consider Bakersfield to be more a part of Central California as it is near Kings and Tulare counties and is a hub for agriculture and oil production.
