Lesser (Little) Goguryeo Kingdom
------------------------------------------------------
Lesser Goguryeo or Little Goguryeo (699-820) (소고구려, 小高句麗) was a state established by the refugees of Goguryeo, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea.
The kingdom was originally called Goryeo, but later historians added "Lesser" for disambiguation from Goguryeo, which was also called Goryeo sometimes. "Goryeo" is also the name of a later kingdom in Korean history, and the source of the English name Korea.
After the Korean Silla kingdom and the Chinese Tang Dynasty allied to destroy Goguryeo, the Liaodong Peninsula was briefly administered by Tang. Tang soon lost effective control due to rebellion by Goguryeo refugees, and the region became a buffer zone between Tang and the Korean kingdom of Balhae. Alt...

K-pop (an abbreviation of Korean pop; Hangul: 케이팝) is a musical genre originating in South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements. Although it comprises all genres of "popular music" within South Korea, the term is more often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music covering a range of styles including dance-pop, pop ballad, electropop, R&B and hip-hop music.[1] The genre emerged with one of the earliest K-pop groups, Seo Taiji and Boys, forming in 1992. Their experimentation with different styles of music "reshaped Korea's music scene".[2] As a result, the integration of foreign musical elements has now become common practice in the K-pop industry.[5]
K-pop entered the Japanese market at the turn of the 21st century and rapidly grew into a subculture among teenagers and young adults of East and Southeast Asia.[3][4] Currently, the global spread of K-pop and Korean culture known as the Korean Wave is seen in Latin America,[5][6][7] India,[8][9] North Africa,[10][11] the Middle East,[12][13] and elsewhere in the Western world.[14][15][16][17][18][19] This is owing largely to Internet social networking services.[20] In the 1990s, Korean pop musicians incorporated American popular music styles like rap, rock and techno in their music.[58] In 1992 the emergence of Seo Taiji & Boys marked a revolutionary moment in the history of K-pop. The trio debuted on MBC's talent show with their song "Nan Arayo" (난 알아요, I Know) and got the lowest rating from the jury;[59] however, the song and album of the same name became so successful that it paved the way for other songs of the same format. The song's success was attributed to its new jack swing-inspired beats and memorable chorus, as well as innovative lyrics which dealt with the problems of Korean society. Their footsteps were followed by a wave of successful hip hop and R&B artists like Yoo Seung-jun, Jinusean, Deux, 1TYM and Drunken Tiger.[59]
In 1995, South Korean record producer Lee Soo-man founded the entertainment company, S.M. Entertainment. Former Seo Taiji & Boys Yang Hyun-suk's member formed YG entertainment in 1996, as did South Korean K-pop singer Park Jin-young established JYP Entertainment in 1997.
Idol bands (young boybands or girlbands) formed, inspired by Seo Taiji & Boys, to cater for a growing teenage audience.[59] H.O.T. was one of the first idol boybands, debuting in 1996. Their success was followed by that of bands like Sechs Kies, S.E.S., Fin.K.L, NRG, Baby V.O.X., Diva, Shinhwa and g.o.d.[60] The 1990s were also a successful period for underground music clubs and punk rock bands such as Crying Nut.[59]
The 1997 Asian financial crisis prompted South Korean entertainers to look for new markets: H.O.T. released a Mandarin-language album[59] and Diva released an English-language album in Taiwan.

Although Lesser Goguryeo declared itself an independent kingdom, it was soon absorbed into Balhae, which became a successor state to Goguryeo.
In 699, the Tang government sent former Goguryeo Prince Go Deokmu, the third son of Goguryeo's last ruler, King Bojang, to Liaodong Peninsula, naming him "King of Joseon" and Governor of the Yodong Commandery of the Protectorate General to Pacify the East. Like his father, Go Deokmu had plans to rebel against the Tang and revive Goguryeo and provide a kingdom for the Goguryeo people.
The Tang Empire at the time was undergoing several crises like the An Lushan Rebellion. Along with these major events was also the pressure given by the Goguryeo and Baekje revival movements and the Silla kingdom. This pressure allowed Go Deokmu to take control of the Protectorate General to Pacify the East and establish a kingdom.
The Little Goguryeo kingdom was established with Go Deokmu as its first king. Very little is known about how the establishment of Little Goguryeo was reacted upon by neighboring kingdoms. It is known that the Balhae kingdom was in good terms with Lesser Goguryeo in respect for the similar purposes that the two kingdoms possessed. The location of Go Deokmu's capital or when he died is unknown.
Around 820, after two generations of ruling the Liaodong Peninsula and other former regions of Goguryeo, Lesser Goguryeo was absorbed into Balhae during the reign King Seon of Balhae. Go Deokmu's Lesser Goguryeo is believed to have lasted for about 120 years before being absorbed into Balhae.

"Dixie" (Union Version) - Union Civil War Song
The song "Dixie" was the composed by Daniel Decatur Emmett and acted as an unofficial anthem for the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. Union Dixie is a version by the north that mocks the Confederacy, saying that they are "traitors," overrun by "rattlesnakes and alligators" and asserting that the Union will be victorious, and "each Dixie boy must understand that he must mind his Uncle Sam." This version is performed by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Thank you guys so much for a million Uncle Sams minded!

The American Civil War: 1861 - 1865 | Documentary
The United States of America was born out of the yearning of the many people who had traveled there from the old world of Europe to be free of the imperial powers that had dominated them for centuries. To have democracy, liberty, justice for all and to take command of their own destiny.
The birth of the American nation was a painful one, first by having to fight against the forces of the British and then against the indigenous people of North America, within and from outside of the new borders they had declared. In between the many conflicts, the new nation had to establish its own laws, political system and even its own culture none of which developed overnight.
Obviously, there would not always be a consensus. Over the century after 1776 when the United States of America was born, wh...

The American Civil War explained
The American Civil War (1861-1865) was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. More than a war to prevent the secession of the southern states, it became the symbol of a fight for equality of rights, liberty, and an end to oppression. Some men that fought in this conflict such as Abraham Lincoln or Ulysses S. Grant went down in History as some of America's greatest heroes and some battles such as the one of Gettysburg as some of its greatest battles.

At this point in time, neither side wanted the war to last long. In fact, some in the South had actually hoped that the attack on Fort Sumter would scare the Union into diplomacy instead of armed conflict. The Confederates knew they were greatly outnumbered and were smart enough to recognize the obstacles they’d need to overcome to beat the North, however, they weren’t the only ones with concerning weaknesses

The Civil War, Part I: Crash Course US History #20
In which John Green ACTUALLY teaches about the Civil War. In part one of our two-part look at the US Civil War, John looks into the causes of the war, and the motivations of the individuals who went to war. The overarching causes and the individual motivations were not always the same, you see. John also looks into why the North won, and whether that outcome was inevitable. The North's industrial and population advantages are examined, as are the problems of the Confederacy, including its need to build a nation at the same time it was fighting a war. As usual, John doesn't get much into the actual battle-by-battle breakdown. He does talk a little about the overarching strategy that won the war, and Grant's plan to just overwhelm the South with numbers. Grant took a lot of losses in the lat...

Over the century after 1776 when the United States of America was born, while growing under a political union of the states that it was composed of, it also saw the widening of a cultural divide between the industrious northern states and the agricultural southern states. Perhaps more than anything else, the two sides of this divide found themselves at odds over the question of slavery.
The ethics of owning a person as property became a legal battle between those in support of the practice and those opposed in American courts and halls of power. Eventually, the dispute of course became a real battlefield. More Americans died in the American Civil War that raged on the North American continent between 1861 and 1865 than in any other war in which Americans have fought throughout its history.
And while the battles have long ended, the ramifications of the civil war continue to be felt to this very day in America over issues such as culture and of course race. So, let us delve into the history of this dark chapter of American history.

The American Civil War (also known by other names) was a civil war in the United States https://www.vidypedia.com/post/united-states from 1861 to 1865, fought between northern states loyal to the Union and southern states that had seceded from the Union to form the Confederate States of America. The civil war began primarily as a result of the long-standing controversy over the enslavement of black people. War broke out in April 1861 when secessionist forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina just over a month after
Abraham Lincoln https://www.vidypedia.com/post/abraham-lincoln had been inaugurated as the President of the United States. The loyalists of the Union in the North, which also included some geographically western and southern states, proclaimed support for the Constitution. They faced secessionists of the Confederate States in the South, who advocated for states' rights to uphold slavery.
Of the 34 U.S. states in February 1861, seven Southern slave-holding states were declared by their state governments to have seceded from the country, and the Confederate States of America was organized in rebellion against the U.S. constitutional government. The Confederacy grew to control at least a majority of territory in eleven states, and it claimed the additional states of Kentucky and Missouri by assertions from native secessionists fleeing Union authority. These states were given full representation in the Confederate Congress throughout the Civil War. The two remaining slave-holding states, Delaware and Maryland, were invited to join the Confederacy, but nothing substantial developed due to intervention by federal troops.
The Confederate states were never diplomatically recognized as a joint entity by the government of the United States, nor by that of any foreign country. The states that remained loyal to the U.S. were known as the Union. The Union and the Confederacy quickly raised volunteer and conscription armies that fought mostly in the South for four years. Intense combat left between 620,000 and 750,000 people dead. The Civil War remains the deadliest military conflict in American history, and accounted for more American military deaths than all other wars combined until the Vietnam War https://www.vidypedia.com/post/vietnam-war
The war effectively ended on April 9, 1865, when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Battle of Appomattox Court House. Confederate generals throughout the Southern states followed suit, the last surrender on land occurring June 23. Much of the South's infrastructure was destroyed, especially its railroads. The Confederacy collapsed, slavery was abolished, and four million black slaves were freed. The war-torn nation then entered the Reconstruction era in a partially successful attempt to rebuild the country and grant civil rights to freed slaves.
The war is one of the most studied and written about episodes in U.S. history, and remains the subject of cultural and historiographical debate. Of particular interest are the causes of the Civil War and the persisting myth of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy.

Grant took a lot of losses in the latter days of the war, but in the end, it did lead to the surrender of the South.

Grant took a lot of losses in the latter days of the war, but in the end, it did lead to the surrender of the South.

Less than a century after gaining independence from Great Britain, the United States of America would be wracked by a Civil War as the secessionist Confederate States of the South fought the Union forces of the remaining loyal states. Four long years of war would result in the deadliest military conflict in American history, as the fate of the Union hung in the balance.
