The 1992 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted by Sweden between 10 and 26 June 1992. It was the ninth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and supported by UEFA.
Denmark won the 1992 championship, one of the country's few major football triumphs. The team had qualified only after Yugoslavia was disqualified as a result of the breakup and warfare in the country. Eight national teams contested the finals tournament.
Also present at the tournament was the CIS national football team (Commonwealth of Independent States), representing the recently dissolved Soviet Union whose national team had qualified for the tournament. It was also the first major tournament at which the reunifiedGermany (who were beaten 2–0 by Denmark in the final) had competed.
It was to be the last tournament with only eight participants, the last to award the winner of a match with only two points, and the last tournament before the introduction of the back-pass rule.
The following is a list of squads for each nation competing at Euro 1992 in Sweden.
Each nation had to submit a squad of 20 players, by 31 May 1992. Denmark were given until 4 June to enter their final squad, having only been invited to play in the tournament on 30 May 1992, following the suspension of Yugoslavia from sporting competitions.
The players' age, caps and clubs are as of 9 June 1992 (the tournament started on 10 June).
Caps included are for the unified German national team, or its predecessor West Germany. Thomas Doll (29 caps), Andreas Thom (51) and Matthias Sammer (23) all previously won caps for East Germany in addition.
The Football League Championship (often referred to as the Championship for short or the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the highest division of The Football League and second-highest overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League. Each year, the top finishing teams in the Championship are promoted to the Premier League, and the lowest finishing teams are relegated to League 1.
The Football League Championship, which was introduced for the 2004–05 season, was previously known as the Football League First Division (1992–2004), and before that was known as Division Two (1892–1992). The winners of the Championship receive the Football League Championship trophy, the same trophy as the old First Division champions were handed prior to the Premier League's inception in 1992.
The Championship is the wealthiest non-top flight football division in the world and the seventh richest division in Europe. With an average match attendance for the 2014–15 season was 17,857, the Championship ranked slightly ahead of the German 2. Bundesliga as the most-watched secondary league in the world.
The 1996 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 96, was the 10th UEFA European Championship, a quadrennial football tournament contested by European nations. It took place in England from 8 to 30 June 1996.
It was the first European Championship to feature 16 finalists, following UEFA's decision to expand the tournament from eight teams. Games were staged in eight cities and, although not all games were sold out, the tournament holds the European Championship's second-highest aggregate attendance (1,276,000) and average per game (41,158) for the 16-team format, surpassed only in 2012.
Germany won the tournament, beating the Czech Republic 2–1 in the final with a golden goal during extra time; this was the first major competition to be decided using this method. This was Germany's first major title won as a unified nation.
Bid process
At the time of the bid process, the event was still not confirmed to include sixteen teams. Instead, the bids were largely prepared as if hosting an eight-team tournament, meaning only four venues were due to be required. All candidates had to submit their plans by 10 December 1991.
Poland and Ukraine's bid was chosen by UEFA's Executive Committee on 18 April 2007. The two host teams qualified automatically while the remaining 14 finalists were decided through a qualifying competition, featuring 51 teams, from August 2010 to November 2011. This was the last European Championship to employ the 16-team finals format in use since 1996; from Euro 2016 onward, it will be expanded to 24 finalists.
Euro 2012 was played at eight venues, four in each host country. Five new stadiums were built for the tournament, and the hosts invested heavily in improving infrastructure such as railways and roads at UEFA's request. Euro 2012 set attendance records for the 16-team format, for the highest aggregate attendance (1,440,896) and average per game (46,481).
The 1968 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in Italy. This was the third European Football Championship, an event held every four years and organised by UEFA. The final tournament took place between 5 and 10 June 1968.
It was in this year that the tournament changed its name from the European Nations' Cup to the European Championship.
There were also some changes in the tournament's qualifying structure, with the two-legged home-and-away knock-out stage being replaced by a group phase.
Only four countries played in the final tournament. There were semi-finals, the final and a third place match.
The hosts were only announced after the qualifying round, which meant that they had to qualify along with all the others for the final stage.
Venues
Qualification
The qualification competition was played in two stages: a group stage (taking place from 1966 until 1968) and the quarter-finals (played in 1968). There were eight qualifying groups of four teams each with the exception of group 4, which only had three. The matches were played in a home-and-away basis. Victories were worth 2 points, draws 1 point, and defeats 0 points. Only group winners could qualify for the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals were played in two legs on a home-and-away basis. The winners of the quarter-finals would go through to the final tournament.
The 1992 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted by Sweden between 10 and 26 June 1992. It was the ninth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and supported by UEFA.

Germany made the stronger start with Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel saving from both Stefan Reuter and Guido Buchwald. In the 18th minute, Flemming Povlsen passed to John Jensen on the edge of the Germany penalty area who shot past Germany goalkeeper Bodo Illgner to give Denmark a 1–0 lead. Schmeichel then made several further saves to keep the score at 1–0 at half-time. With twelve minutes of the match remaining, a clearance from Thomas Helmer was headed by John Sivebæk to Kim Vilfort who struck a left-footed shot off the bottom of the post and into the Germany goal past a diving Illgner to make it 2–0. That remained the final score and Denmark secured their first European Championship. Their tournament victory is considered to be one of the biggest shocks in international football.

The 1992 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted by Sweden between 10 and 26 June 1992. It was the ninth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and supported by UEFA.
Denmark won the 1992 championship. The team had qualified only after FR Yugoslavia (who qualified as Yugoslavia) was disqualified as a result of the breakup and warfare in the country. Eight national teams contested the finals tournament.
Also present at the tournament was the CIS national football team (Commonwealth of Independent States), representing the recently dissolved Soviet Union whose national team had qualified for the tournament. It was also the first major tournament at which the reunified Germany (who were beaten 2–0 by Denmark in the final) had competed.
It was to be the last tournament with only eight participants, the last to award the winner of a match with only two points, and the last tournament before the introduction of the back-pass rule, which was brought in immediately after the tournament was completed. When the next competition was held in 1996, 16 teams were involved and were awarded 3 points for a win.
There were 32 goals scored in 15 matches, for an average of 2.13 goals per match.

This video is about the incredible Denmark team that won the European Championship in 1992. At first Denmark didn't even qualify for the tournament. Yugoslavia were disqualified and Denmark replaced their spot. Beforehand it's crazy to think that a team would win the tournament that didn't even qualify. That's the beauty of football. Everything is possible until the final whistle. Thanks for watching and the endless support. Let me know what you think in the comments.

In 1992, Denmark did something that really shouldn't be possible. They won the UEFA Euros without even qualifying. But how exactly did they do it?

The UEFA Euro 1992 Final was the final match of Euro 1992, the ninth European Football Championship, UEFA's top football competition for national teams. The match was played at the Nya Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 26 June 1992 and was contested by Denmark and Germany. Denmark qualified for the finals ten days before they commenced after Yugoslavia were ejected by UEFA as a result of the breakup of the country. They faced England, Sweden and France in the group stage before a penalty shoot-out victory over the Netherlands in the semi-final saw them progress to their first European Championship final. Germany were placed in UEFA Euro 1984 Group 2 where they played the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Scotland and the Netherlands, before defeating Sweden in the semi-final.
The final took place in front of a 37,800 people and was refereed by Bruno Galler from Switzerland.
