12 Upcoming PC Hidden Gems You Must Watch Out For
The Rock Paper Shotgun video department recently visited EGX 2018, where we looked for hidden gems for PC that had slipped below our radars. We discovered a world of sticky cats, terrifying tube trains, platforming trombones and two-headed dogs. These are our top picks of upcoming PC games that you must watch out for.
Our PC preview of EGX covers everything from musical platformers like Kine to Wavy The Rocket, where you steer a rocket - yes - along a sine curve. We played Sticky Cats, where sticky cats do battle, and also tried to run a post office in Willowbrooke Post. If you hate cats you could try Phogs instead (the two-headed dog puzzler) and if you hate post, well that’s just too niche a complaint to deal with in this upcoming PC games preview.

What's It Like To Start World Of Warcraft From Scratch?
I'm extremely excited to announce Inventory Space! A new video series in which Ed and I spend our precious free time with massive live-service games to see how much they demand from our schedules. Are we able to truly experience everything these games have to offer without sacrificing the bits of our daily routines that keep us from withering away at our monitors? How many hours do you really need to invest in order to fully experience a game? And is it even worth it, in the end?

What Does And Doesn’t Work In Shadow Of The Tomb Raider | PC Review
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider has it all: loads of tombs, loads of puzzles and - most importantly - loads of llamas. But it is a true return to classic Tomb Raider games? Find out as we explore what works and what doesn’t work in Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PC.
Our full Shadow of the Tomb Raider review is over on Rock Paper Shotgun, but these are Matthew’s thoughts after 25 hours with the game. For the record, Matthew likes classic Tomb Raider and holds Tomb Raiders Legend, Anniversary and Underworld to be the highlight of the series, so he went looking to see if the latest game offered the same kind of experience as those. We’re talking about giant tombs packed with puzzle and platforming, and a better sense of exciting adventure instead of the grim survival of the previous reboots.

Rock Paper Shotgun has a written Desperados 3 PC review on the site. This is the RPS video team Desperados 3 review - a Desperados 3 PC review to be precise. (We did test it on a controller and it plays just fine, as did Shadow Tactics before it, so console players are safe.) Ever since we ran our Desperados 3 impressions (https://youtu.be/3vd4kbem8Hs) we’ve been waiting for this one and it didn’t disappoint. Planning incredible takedowns and watching your plans play out is a pure joy - this is a really well made stealth game that supports for wildest ideas. Add great characters, fun new skills and a killer wild west setting and this is a treat.
It’s even bigger than Shadow Tactics before it. Wondering how long is Desperados 3? It took Matthew 35 hours to beat it on hard during his Desperados 3 test, and then he dived back in to do bonus objectives and the Barons Challenges - awesome level remixes that add even more to the game. This Doom Eternal gameplay PC show sit running on a RTX 2080 Ti, you don’t need anything near that to make it work, though. It’s a very polished release on PC, with very few technical hiccups. What a rare treat that is these days.
Enjoy this Desperados 3 verdict video. If you’d like to know more about the game you can check out our earlier impressions videos (https://youtu.be/4cffoyoCe70). Hopefully this Desperados III review should have you fully covered though. Any questions, pop them in the comments section. Desperados 3 release date is 16 June, so not long to wait before you dive in and start plotting your own stealth fun.

We also take a trip into horror territory in Those Who Remain, a shadowy thriller that channels some of the spirit of Alan Wake - and he has plenty of spirits to channel. If you prefer horror with a more domestic flavour, Alice recommends Meridian Line, a spooky trip into the London Underground system. Or you could go searching for the Wendigo with nothing more than a camera, as seen in The Snap Hunt. That one reminds us a bit of Firewatch, which also feels like one of the inspirations for The Bradwell Conspiracy, a sci-fi tinged story set in a Stonehenge museum.
If you’re sick of playing PC games and would rather take them apart, Matthew recommends Obviously Inappropriate Content, where you play the role of a game censor. More constructive types will want to keep an eye out for Flotsam, where you build a Waterworld-like city on the sea. And if all of the above sound too stressful for your PC gaming taste, you can wait for Kinoko instead, which is a charming exploration game where you defrost snow and plant seeds. It’s delightful.
These were just a few of the amazing upcoming PC games we saw and played at EGX 2018. We’d love to hear your recommendations, too. If you want to keep on top of all the upcoming PC games, just subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun - we have you covered.

Inventory Space will – hopefully – give you a better idea of whether mammoth games will slot into your life neatly, or not at all.
Our first episode focuses on World Of Warcraft (not Classic), an absolute juggernaut in the "Big Game" category and an MMO that we both had very different histories with. Ed was the one with great nostalgia for past WoW and someone who used to spend countless hours in Azeroth, while I hadn't played it at all before. We set some loose goals, like reaching the endgame and doing our first Raid, because we were naive boys who believed that, yes, we'd be enamoured with WoW. In the end, our experiences with the game aligned in a way we hadn't expected. And, in a strange meeting of many complex thoughts, we came to quite a beautiful conclusion.
So before you dive in the game's Dragonflight expansion, why not see if your inventory has the capacity for a game as hefty as World of Warcraft.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider delivers big on many of these things - there are more tombs than we were expecting, with challenge tombs and crypts taking us to some really crazy places. Weirdly, it comes at the cost of combat - this is a surprisingly combat-free game, compared to the Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise, at least. What is here is fab - the stealth is fast and nasty, the combat slick and punchy - but there isn’t enough of it. It also means the skill tree and weapon upgrades feel like unneeded developments. As the video explains, it’s not a game breaker, by Shadow of the Tomb Raider does feel like it’s doing two things at once.
Hopefully you’ll watch these Shadow of the Tomb raider impressions all the way through to get a feel for the PC gameplay. It’s largely spoiler free - we haven’t covered the story or the big social hubs where you spend most of the game. But if you do have any questions about the game, pop them in the comments and we’ll answer them ASAP. Oh, and a word of advice: when you get to set the difficulty in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, punch exploration and puzzles up to hard for the best experience - as the video explains, it makes you feel more like a proper Tomb Raider.
If you enjoyed our Shadow of the Tomb Raider PC review, why not subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun for more videos like it. We cover everything from blockbusters to bus simulators. And again, any questions about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, pop them in the comments. Well done for reading all this nonsense and I hope you enjoy the video.
