Tintamarre Island St. Martin
How often do you spend time on a tropical deserted island? Do you know what it’s like? Let me tell you about one of the magical moments that come with being a cruiser - being able to hang out in places that ‘normal’ people never see.
The beach glistens with pinkish-white sand. The side cliffs are a terra-cotta brown and the backdrop between consists of mangroves, palm trees, and green shrubs. The gradients of blue of both the sky and sea expand out to what seems like infinity and when the sun is about to say goodnight the setting gains a golden hue that makes you fall deeply in love with natural beauty. If your mouth isn’t smiling your eyes certainly are.
The constant breeze along the shore brings a smell of sea air mixed with floral hints coming from the land behind. And is that a smel...

121: Ile Tintamarre, the Pearl of Saint Martin; Best Deserted Tropical Island Anchorage in St Martin
Come along and join us as we sail Blown Away from Simpson Lagoon in Sint Maarten 🇸🇽 to the uninhabited Ile Tintamarre which is the best anchorage by far in Sint Maarten and St. Martin. Enjoy it’s free well maintained mooring balls and pristine azure blue water and sandy beaches where we stay for a week while we shakedown new system upgrades we just finished installing.
Make sure you bring your scuba tanks so that you can dive the tugboat just a short dinghy ride from the anchorage and later to warm up, hike the island where you will discover remains of an airport which existed in the 1940s as well as buildings from a Dutchman’s farm settled at the turn of the 20th century.
We loved the raw beauty of the lagoon and painted lee shore shipwreck. Don’t miss it!

How to spend the day on Tintamarre Island, St. Martin
What would you do for a full day on a deserted island?
I can guarantee you that you will not be bored.
Tintamarre or Flat Island is an uninhabited tiny island 2miles from French St. Martin's shore. It is known for it's tranquility, unspoiled nature and one amazingly gorgeous beach. It is truly paradise.
The island used to belong to a Dutch man who used it to cultivate cotton and keep sheep for cheese making before selling it to a French St. Martin politician. The island was then briefly used as an airbase with small planes and seaplanes servicing the neighboring islands.
It is now deserted and if not for the few building frames still visible, you would never guess that it was once populated.
It is perfect for snorkeling, swimming and hiking and is a popular spot for turtles sighting....

Creole Rock is one of the best dive spots on the French side of Saint Martin, both for beginners and experienced divers.
The water is not very deep here, making it the perfect place to learn to dive, with and without air tanks. The profile of this large rocky outcropping is said to resemble the head of an Amerindian, and numerous pelicans have been bold enough to use it as a dormitory. It is forbidden to use any motors within a zone of 30 meters from the beach, as well as scaling the rock itself, where pelicans and brown boobies make their nests.

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

It is perfect for snorkeling, swimming and hiking and is a popular spot for turtles sighting.
Ferry name: Destination Tintamarre

And is that a smell of last nights bonfire hanging around only to whet our appetite for what’s to come later in the day?

Most of all, we loved our time with newfound cruising friends Deb, Fraser, David, Jimmy, Annette and Nico!
We love you Tintamarre and can’t wait to see you again!
If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE our videos with your friends!

It is perfect for snorkeling, swimming and hiking and is a popular spot for turtles sighting.

Île Tintamarre is a small island with an area of approximately 0.8 square kilometres (0.3sqmi). It is located in the Caribbean Sea, about 3 kilometres (2mi) from the island of Saint Martin, and is administered as part of the Frenchoverseas collectivity of Saint Martin. The island has no human occupants, but has been inhabited in the past. Between 1946 and 1950, it was the base for the airline Compagnie Aérienne Antillaise, which flew planes from the island's 500-metre (1,600ft) airstrip (no longer existent.)
