Wilmington's Lie: The Murderous Coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy is a book by the American journalist and author David Zucchino. The book details the events leading up to the Wilmington insurrection of 1898, in which white supremacists in Wilmington, North Carolina carried out a massacre and coup d'état.
Reception
[edit]According to Book Marks, the book received a "rave" consensus, based on eighteen critics: thirteen "rave" and five "positive".[1] In the March/April 2020 issue of Bookmarks, the book was scored four and a half out of five stars. The magazine's critical summary reads: "It's "a grim but fascinating story, and an instructive one" (Wall Street Journal)".[2]
The book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 2021.[3]
