I was having a lul on the project because I got engrossed in other people's edit wars on one of my other wikipedia interests (gunpowder and black powder); and secondly, joining the battle on UK station naming convention, and because of developments on line maps. I was going to do a Dreamer84 style map on some of my railway project articles that had only text; then Prettymap came in, and that has been replaced by a German-derived mapping. Once the May holiday is out of the way I want to start added maps and pictures; and that means learning the mapping syntax. At the moment, for me, its a transition phase between creating new Project articles and consolidating existing Project articles; but there are still redtext railway article names to go back to.Pyrotec 17:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

The extremities of action are to do it yourself or get other people to do it. This is the black & white, with many shades of grey in between. Assuming that you don't want to do it all yourself, you could try the following: If you have new ideas you could list them on the project pages - that might plant a seed for other people to grow. Create some stubs; create some stubs with bad grammar and some typos - that will ensure that they are ungraded; propose something contentious. I see you are also on UK Project Waterways, you could try and get some synergy. These new canal mapping symbols may be just what is need to get mappers to move between railways, canals and railways. Places of interest in Hertfordshire

I see that this article has lost its Articles for deletion vote and has now gone. I suggest material from the article is added into the main Hertfordshire article under appropriate categories describing the most significant cultural sites within the county. eg Antiquities Religeous monuments Museums etc.

Minor items can be included under the various sub categories for Hertfordshire.

Remember, Wikipedia's policy on personal attacks states that users' affiliations are irrelelant to their contributions and should never be used to dismiss their views. WA2

I don't know that the 'no fewer words than 50' rule needs changing, I personally like the idea of longer branches as it lessens the chance of a huge number being created, as was the situation with the last main game. If that's the reason for the rule, then I'd keep it, and possibly embolden it on the page with an explanation. It's more than likely that someone created the shorter branch without seeing the rule at the top; maybe it would be okay to change the word limit on the rogue branch, I doubt the branch's creator would mind. My RfA

Thank you for your support in my my recent RfA in which I withdrew because the oppose votes were almost equalling the supporters. I then decided to leave my account (Tellyaddict) and start fresh under a new username, however I quickly decided to reconsider after another user persuaded me not to leave the account - I am now glad I did reconsider because leaving that account and creating a new one was too hasty so I've decided to improve rather than starting again! I hope we can remain civil and that there were no negative feelings caused. Again, thanks for your support even though I withdrew it, your vote is much appreciated! I'd be extremely grateful if you could take a look at the Class 378 page and leave your opinion. It has been listed as an AfD on the basis that I have not provided evidence confirming the Class number. I have done this now, but those who are promoting its deletion are not prepared to accept the sources I have given. While I disagree that this should be merged at all with Class 376 (obviously since I'm the advocate for keeping this a seperate article!), I am at least gratified that you feel that this issue deserves its own special mention, and that you put emphasis on "for now". I'm also interested to know what your opinion is of the source that I've found to prove my case. Transport in Milton Keynes

Ta. The canal link (MK-Bedford) is mentioned in the Grand Union Canal article. It is still just a proposal, though the consortium have won 250k or something to work up a fully costed proposal. They seem confident of getting a spur at least as far as the M1 but then there is a dirty big hill (Brogborough) in the way before the drop down to Marston Vale. If they get that much under way, it qualifies for an article, I think - but not before. --Concrete Cowboy 13:32, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Moving

I don't see a particular need to move the Wikipediholic test as it is a piece of humor and not actual policy. It's well-known at its current location and moving it, in my opinion, would only cause more trouble than it's worth. • Wikipedia:Are you a Wikipediaholic? is a good location for a redirect. It's easier if the page title is short and to the point (as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions). The more words you add, the more a newbie (or a veteran user for that matter) can get confused and mistype the URL. Also, nothing links to the title you suggested. Moving the page would result in thousands of redirect pages of pages that already point to the existing title. • That would be an overuse of capitalization. Sometimes there's reason for keeping them like Main Page and sometimes it's just to be in line with other pages. High-speed lines

Actually, the lines shown there include *all* existing dedciated high-speed lines and lines under construction that have articles on Wikipedia. (The French and Japanese lines aren't linked seperately, due to there being an "overview" type article). So, the title is valid. Tompw (talk) 13:30, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

To quote High-speed rail: "High-speed rail is public transport by rail at speeds in excess of 200 km/h (125 mph)." (bolding mine). CTRL aside, the fastest lines in the UK have a max speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). So, they don't qualify as being "high-speed". (Anything over 125mph requires in-cab signalling, as drivers cannot see line-side signals reliably... in-cab signalling is effectively what defines HSR, but that's a seperate issue).

The West Coast Main Line currently runs at 125mph max... I know Virgin want to run 135mph, but that's strictly a proposal only at the moment. If it happened, then the WCML would be added to the template. Tompw (talk) 23:21, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, sorry to take so long to reply, my stupid internet connection is out at home (I'm editing illicitly from work). I don't think it would be a problem, except possibly in an RfA where all your edits are so scrutinized. Personally I still don't see any legitimate reason why it's a problem, as long as you're making productive contributions (maybe it would be a problem if MOST of your edits were just goofing around, but that's not the case here by a long shot). You might want to ask someone who's more familiar with the RfA process and trends if that's what you're curious about (since they do seem to change somewhat). Personally I think we should be giving out the mop much more easily than we currently do, but others do have different standards. My advice would be to just make sure you're spending plenty of time making valuable contributions like adding content or references to articles; then it should be no one's business what you do for fun. Proposed move

Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation are not the same as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). SSSIs are legally protected and are nationally important for wildlife. Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation are important at the county level and have no statutory protection and do not necessarily support protected species. I don't think a move is needed. I'm not quite sure what you're question was. The bot will create the categories, so that you can place articles in them via your wikiproject banner. Final Fantasy (series)

Thanks for the heads up. It is on my watchlist, but better safe than sorry. I added my comments and set up a voting section. This topic comes up every so often and I'm not sure there is a good answer to it. As I mention in the discussion, the term "Final Fantasy" has two very distinct meanings within the same frame of reference, which is quite different than normal dis-ambiguity issues. The common use refers to the series, but the proper use is the first game. By now, most people say "FF I", but the official title is simply FF. It is a little bit like "Kleenex" and "Fed Ex" which have come to mean something more inclusive than the original meaning. (I was visiting to a friend who worked for Scott paper once and when I asked if he had a Kleenex, and he said they prefer "Scotties" ;^)

BTW - I just noticed your question in my RFA. Not sure how I missed it earlier, but by the time I noticed I had already answered a couple of other places. I don't like potato chips in general, and can't stand Pringles! Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I didn't see any inappropriateness in anything in the links you showed me. You didn't seem unfriendly, you explained your position, you even apologized and it looks like you ended up compromising: model behavior. It looks from the history that there were a couple of reverts, which it is of course best to avoid; you should come to a compromise first. But this was a while ago anyway. HP7 and horcruxes

Other people answered it before I got there, but I see it the same way as them ... you sound as if you're getting the horcrux number confused with the number of soul pieces he has. DD reckons he created six horcruxes to make a seven-part soul. Six soul pieces then reside in his horcruxes, and one stays in his body. If we ask how many horcruxes he has made, the answer is definitely six (according to DD).

In a practical sense, though, it works out to the same end: Harry needs to destroy seven things; the six horcruxes, and then Voldemort. It's just that saying seven horcruxes in the article isn't quite right. Daggoth S 01:11, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I saw your reply on the Hythe talk page. I don't know what you're suggesting though - we're not responsible for the content of external websites; presumably you're suggesting we change the article to refer to Hythe as a town. As I said on the talk page, there's no town council and there's no borough named after it, and since there's ambiguity on the official websites we're safer calling Hythe a village. It used to be Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion until July 2006, when it was moved. This was done partly to encourage people to treat it like a discussion (rather than a vote), and partly because people frequently bring redirects there asking for them to be deleted when in fact a better course of action is to re-target them, so the nomination turns into a discussion of where best to retarget. If you intend to retarget from the outset, though, there's nothing to stop you doing it yourself. We may as well let the nomination run now it is there, as people may disagree with my suggestion. I've tried to avoid them, as if they're not important enough to have an article, they're probably not worth listing .... Where I have included redlinks, I've gone back and created an article - hint. Someone in south London is already adding postcodes to the templates, why, I wonder? (PS I changed the Hounslow P&OS->P&OS in Hounslow, otherwise, we'd need a title). Hope that's OK with you? The UIC definition (which I agree with) states "speeds in excess of 200 km/h (125mph)". The WCML travels at, not over, 125mph. Therefore it isn't a high-speed line. Tompw (talk) (review) 18:45, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Glasgow Subway

I put Mid importance on that article because I felt it fit better in that rating for TWP. While it is one of the oldest systems, I didn't think it is vital for a thorough understanding of the history and technology of rail transport on a worldwide scale. After re-reading the criteria on Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Assessment#Importance scale, I feel the subject is on the upper end of Mid importance, but still Mid. It may be High importance for WPRT or WPTIS (maybe even Top importance for WPTIS), but for rail transport in general... Slambo (Speak) 19:01, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
