Can anyone explain the thinking behind the order of the programming languages in the navbox? The arrangement seems at least partly disordered or somewhat random. It would help readers were there some clue as to rationale. I won't alphabetize anything yet, out of respect for whatever is going on here, but something needs a bit of attention. Thank you. Why the separation by language/inclusion of text editors?

[edit]

This template is very misleading. It includes text editors with IDEs, which is factually inaccurate. Not all text editors are IDEs. Separately, IDEs are typically tied to a specific language or group of languages, in contrast to how a text editor is language-indifferent. Due to this inherent flexibility with languages found in normal text editors, including and categorizing text editors by language does not make sense, unlike how it would for IDEs. This flexibility may also be present in some IDEs with plugins.

The solutions are to: 1. Remove all text editors from this template and to create a separate template for non-IDE text editors. 2. Include text editors, but add a "language-indifferent" category in the template for both language-indifferent text editors, and general purpose IDEs/IDEs with language plugins. — Your local Sink Cat (The Sink). 21:20, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
