Work hard. Be nice.

Fictive Kin /Purpose

Fictive Kin is a group of old friends, spread across the globe, working together on the things we enjoy. It’s our hope to use the World Wide Web to make the World Wide World a better place.

It’s an audacious goal and a bit of a cliché. Actually, it borders on adorable. But we’re not afraid of being a little sappy. We sincerely believe that the Web has the ability to make a significant impact on people’s lives. It can bring us together in new, meaningful ways. It can create new economies and save old ones. It has all sorts of potential that can be unlocked if the right products would just get built. So, with this in mind, we want to build things that:

  1. 1

Use the Web to get people off the Web.

  2. 2

Use the connectivity of the Web to create actual intimacy.

  3. 3

Help people save money or make money on things they already have.

  4. 4

Level the playing field for the individual and stick up for the “little guy”.

  5. 5

Bring a smidge of silliness into the world.

These are long-term pursuits, but we want to be a long-term company. To do so, we need to remember that the most important product is our day-to-day lives. We have to constantly be on the lookout for each other’s well-being and extra vigilant in our self-examination.

Success, for us, is answering “yes” to each of these questions.

“Fictive kin” are the people you consider family even though they’re not related to you by blood. That’s how we feel about each other, and, ultimately, that’s how we hope the people who use our products will feel about us.
