Energy Independence, West Virginia Investment
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito is leading the effort to stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s use of regulatory injunction and bureaucratic over-reach against the coal and natural gas industry. Her support for a comprehensive energy plan that includes West Virginia energy sources to end our reliance on foreign oil led her to co-found the Congressional Coal Caucus. She supports the Keystone Pipeline and use of coal-to-liquid fuel as a solution to high gas prices.
Capito has supported the extension of tax cuts for small businesses so they can invest in their businesses, and she is the sponsor of legislation that encourages technology firms to locate in West Virginia. As a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, she will continue to advocate for critical state infrastructure projects like she has for Route 35 securing over $42 million and opposing the Obama Administration’s proposed cut to Corridor H funding in 2009.
West Virginia’s Economy and Jobs
Shelley Moore Capito is fighting hard for economic policies that create an environment for the private sector to create good paying jobs. The approach of the current Administration to overwhelm the nation’s job creators and to create an overbearing EPA that is set on crushing West Virginia’s energy production is the wrong approach. So-called “stimulus spending” has done little to create jobs but instead has bloated the size of State and Federal governments and added to our deficits.
Shelley is leading efforts to keep taxes low and oppose unnecessary roadblocks from being set on our job creators. She has voted to keep taxes low for West Virginia families and has taken the lead in promotion of small businesses by helping entrepreneurs access capital needed to allow them to grow and create new jobs.
Increasing Access to Quality Healthcare
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito opposed the Healthcare Reform Act because of its massive cost and expanded government control. Instead, she supports common sense reforms like ending frivolous lawsuits, eliminating the ban on pre-existing conditions, allowing health insurance companies to compete across state lines and promoting wellness.
Capito supported the creation of Health Savings Accounts that allows individuals to set money aside tax free to help pay for their health care needs. She has also helped draft and pass the legislation that created the Medicare Part D program that provides seniors and disabled people access to prescription drug coverage. As a member of the state legislature, Capito helped to establish the Children’s Health Insurance Program in West Virginia that provides more than 24,000 children with access to quality health care.
