Getting started with Elasticsearch (Elastic)
Honza Král
Description
This is an introduction to Elasticsearch, the popular open source distributed search engine based on Apache Lucene. We'll discuss some of the key features of Elasticsearch, how people are using Elasticsearch and provide a quick introduction to the Python clients available for Elasticsearch.
Abstract
Elasticsearch is an open source horizontally-scalable, distributed search and analytics engine based on Apache Lucene. Elasticsearch is one of the most popular projects on Github with ~400 contributors, 3,000+ forks and 10,000+ commits. Organizations around the world, from startups to governments to large corporations, are using Elasticsearch for numerous use cases to gain real-time insights from large volumes of data.
We'll cover some of the key query capabilities of Elasticsearch: basic keyword search, aggregations, suggestions, etc. along with other topics such as indexing data, configuration best practices, planning for scale, etc. We'll discuss some examples of different uses of Elasticsearch: document/entity search, centralized logging, web analytics.
Honza Král will be the primary presenter for this session. He is lead contributor to the official low-level (elasticsearch-py) and high-level (elasticsearch-dsl-py) Python clients for Elasticsearch. Honza will provide an introduction to these two clients.
Honza (Python client developer), Pier-Hugues (Logstash developer) and Peter (Solutions engineer) are employed by Elastic ([@elastic](https://twitter.com/elastic)), the 170+ person company which shepherds and employs the primary contributors to three open-source projects: Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana.
