Cellar Door is the oldest undergraduate literary journal at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Published twice annually, the magazine has continually published the best poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art of the undergraduate student body since 1973. Over the years, our judges have included everyone from Mark Strand, Téa Obreht, Max Steele, Randall Kenan, Jeffrey McDaniel, Cathy Smith Bowers, Tony Hoagland, and others.
Today, Cellar Door publishes in print and online, seeking to showcase the best poetry, nonfiction, fiction, and visual art on both platforms. The print editions, published each fall and spring, are judged and receive prizes, and are available for free across campus. Online, you’ll find additional content, reviews, and interviews with writers and artists, as well as the same caliber of original, vibrantly creative work that the print edition is known for.
What never changes is Cellar Door‘s dedication to promoting meaningful undergraduate writing and art at Carolina—and the proof can be seen every year printed in its pages.
