The Dragons claimed an impressive win away to Newcastle to kickstart their Challenge Cup campaign, winning 22-14 at Kingston Park.

The Gallagher Premiership were looking for a fifth-straight home win in all competitions, but tries from Rodrigo Martinez, Aaron Wainwright and Huw Anderson sealed the Dragons' first victory since the opening day of the season.

Since beating the Ospreys, the Rodney Parade side have lost seven consecutive matches - dropping them to the bottom of the United Rugby Championship. However, this win keeps them firmly in contention to get out of Pool 2 in Europe.

Filo Tiatia had made nine changes to the side that agonisingly lost to Montpellier in Newport last week, with elusive full-back Anderson handed his first start.

And the youngster, who had been invited into Wales camp to train with Warren Gatland's side this autumn, lived up to his promise with a player-of-the-match performance in Newcastle.

The highlight of which was a 70-yard solo score to put the seal on the Dragons' first win in Europe this season, after Martinez and the talismanic Wainwright had crossed earlier.

Newcastle had Adam Radwan and Alex Hearle to thank for their tries, but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Dragons moved up to third in Pool 2.

The only sour note was the loss of George Nott, with the Dragons second-row forced off with a serious-looking injury.
