Scunthorpe Utd 3 King’s Lynn Town 0

King’s Lynn Town came down to earth with a bump as their unbeaten run was ended by one of their promotion rivals.

Three first-half goals were enough to ensure the Iron claimed the points which took them top of the National League North table and saw Lynn slip a place to fourth.

Defeat ended a seven-game inbeaten run for Lynn and was the first time they have conceded three goals in a game since the second game of the season, in August, when they were beaten 3-0 at Alfreton.

Scunthorpe started the game brightly and thought they had gone ahead in the opening minutes, although Danny Whitehall used his hand to bundle the ball home.

They went ahead on 15 minutes when Lynn old boys Michael Clunan and Joe Rowley worked well to set up Callum Roberts.

Five minutes later the hosts doubled their lead from the penalty spot when Danny Whitehall netted from 12 yards after being fouled by Tom Wilson.

Clunan put a free-kick over the bar as the hosts looked to wrap it up early, although Finlay Barnes had loud claims for a penalty turned down.

Former Lynn defender Ross Barrows was stretchered off before the break, an injury that looked to have been caused by the sand-covered playing surface.

Whitehall added his second in first-half time added and it was game over for the visitors.

Lakeland made two changes at the break, Theo Williams on for Ross Crane and Gold Omotayo replacing Barnes.

Lynn looked more dangerous and Omotayo headed against the right post as they looked for a lifeline to get them back into the game, but it was not to be.
