Manchester United have been warned they're at risk of being dragged into a relegation battle after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves in their Boxing Day clash. United fans have been giving their verdict on the match in our comments section and the player ratings can be found here.

The first half was a goalless affair, with Andre Onana and Jose Sa pulling off some commendable saves, but the Reds were dealt a blow shortly after half-time as Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a second bookable offence on Nélson Semedo. United's defence faltered once again from a corner, allowing Matheus Cunha's cross to sail over Onana and into the net.

Hwang Hee-chan added insult to injury by scoring in stoppage time, sealing the 2-0 victory for Wolves.

Commenter Cromwellswart says: “We need to address the elephant in the room and that is Bruno Fernandes. I've long said that he is a maverick and a damning indictment of the United who 'play in moments' as Gary Neville put it. His stats do not lie and he is of course a brilliant player. But he is a luxury player, Lindt rather than Cadburys. His yellow cards are not captain material and too much of a burden where every player needs to be counted.

“Secondly, the system. Personally, I'm a fan of the formation, it is not just about the system but Ruben's imprint on the club. He might as well start early, sort out the chaff from the wheat and suffer the consequences rather than playing 4-2-3-1 then have to start the bedding in process all over again.

“Thirdly, Andre Onana. He is doubtless a wonderful shot stopper in a similar mould to De Gea when he first came. Both were poor on crosses and set pieces yet David was 18 when he first signed. And both cannot be trusted to play with their feet. This has to stop. Hopefully with the decline of Pep and City, we'll also see the decline of this fashion for keepers to play like centre halves because it certainly does not suit our players. If Ruben wants to persist then Onana needs to go.”

Somario10 thinks: “The fans at the stadium and over the world are doing a great job by sticking with the team during this period of truth. The coach should let go of 3-4-3 formation and choose between 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation that Manchester United is known for. Our players do not have the quality to play in his formation.”

Dunnb87 replies: “I'm not a great fan of Onana but although it was an excellent free kick, he should have had some protection along with a tall player on the back post. Ugarte at least looks a good defensive midfielder & Martinez had a good solid game & thankfully is more judicious in his challenges. No Euro football next year will be a blessing in disguise.”

RedIsRed adds: “Onana was average, which means better than last game. He got boxed for the goal but Ugarte pushed a player in behind him and he didn’t realise until he needed to turn. Maguire suits these games and they suit him. Martinez and Mazraoui were functional but at a very low level. We don’t have a midfield, there isn’t one at Old Trafford. Every week will be the same until we get new faces in. Bruno is playing himself out of the club. He can’t play in this setup and that's a fact. Hojlund and Dalot boxing above their weight. Amad is still our best player. Yoro still needs time. Manager? It was him or Ashworth. We chose him. Like Yoro, he too needs time.”

Spiritoflakotasioux writes: “First of all a great well done to all the travelling United fans who gave the team solid support throughout despite living on scraps. United should have been two up in the first 15 minutes both by Hojlund. The first pass across the six-yard box he completely missed with the goal at his mercy and even worse a missed header from a pin point cross that only needed to be diverted into the open goal! He mistimed his jump and missed that chance. These sorts of chances HAVE to become bread and butter for Hojlund or it's on your bike. “

Platty7 agrees: “The whole club is in disarray, we are staring down the barrel of relegation at this rate, too many average poor players who either don't care or are incapable of doing better, the keeper needs to go, we need a strong spine of a team to build with & that starts with the keeper, he has had 18 months and time and time again he has let us down.”

Okodiche says: “You might disagree with me, but Erik Ten Hag is a better coach than Ruben Amorim. There is a good reason why previous coaches couldn't implement their pattern of play. It took Ralf Rangnick just 2 training sessions to drop his style. Amorim should calm down and play to the strength of what he has. He might change the entire team and yet, they might fit into his plan. It's time to change the team mentality.”

Johndeff agrees: “Amorim's biggest challenge will be this January transfer window. He needs to resolve the Rashford issue quickly and replace him with quality. Likewise a quality left-wing-back is a must. On any given day certain players can have an off day but the character of the team has to be a reflection of their captain and Bruno is no captain.”

LesJohnson adds: “Watching our team dither, not having any form of control, constantly giving the ball away, and fundamentally creating zilch, I am beginning to really worry! If we cannot get at least a draw at Wolves, who on earth can we beat? This is a dark, dire period, and all those responsible at the club must now realise a radical clear out is necessary.

"If Amorim continues with the same group of players, we will end up in a relegation dog-fight and that will conclude in a disaster! So, what do United do? We do not have the millions to pay off Rashford & Co, and we do not have the money to purchase players of the required quality. The only way is to blend our best young players in with 1st team players who deserve to wear the shirt. A tough decision and dangerous one, but anything is better than the dross being served up by this present group! In addition, maybe Amorim might be forced to abandon his system until he gets the players that can actually function in his system.”
