Arne Slot handed Diogo Jota dilemma as 'outstanding' Liverpool option emerges
The fact Liverpool still has four senior forwards fit and firing — even though Federico Chiesa was absent for the win over Spurs last weekend and there are legitimate question marks hanging over Darwin Nunez — speaks volumes for the level of depth Arne Slot can call upon.
But with Diogo Jota now back available and pushing for minutes, the Liverpool boss will face something of a selection dilemma. Not only does he need to find a way of getting more from Chiesa and Nunez, but he also needs to get the balance of minutes right between the four attackers who are proving reliable so far this season.
There is an argument that Mohamed Salah is having his best campaign in a Liverpool shirt in terms of how rounded he has become in the final third. Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo is loving life off the left and Luis Diaz has been revitalized both on the wing and in the center.

"Obviously Diaz plays a little bit more central now but sometimes he comes to the left and I go in the middle, then we switch again," Gakpo told the Reds' official website this week. The pair have found a winning formula that has worked against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
"It has been a good dynamic and we both get in dangerous positions to score," Gakpo continued. "He showed again on Sunday how dangerous he is — in the box with his head, and his second goal I think was a great run and a good finish."
Against Tottenham, too, Diaz impressed. Chosen through the middle as a better option than Nunez and one that also accommodates Gakpo, he scored twice and was heavily involved.
"If you watch the game, he wasn't really a nine," Virgil van Dijk told reporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after his side's 6-3 victory in the capital. "He played obviously through the middle but he was in midfield as well, which is very difficult for defenders when you don't play against a direct opponent because there is so much movement. Lucho did outstanding today again."
Liverpool has found a pairing that works in the final third — obviously with Salah to supplement it too — with Diaz preferred as the number nine in the bigger games lately and Gakpo's form in the final third almost making him undroppable. But Jota began the season in the starting XI for a reason.
While there are more than enough games coming to ensure that each of the four get their fair share of action, getting the balance right could create a headache. Fortunately, nailing the rotation is one of the many things Arne Slot has proven adept at since he arrived in the summer.
There have not been many occasions where he has made the wrong call. And even if he does, he will have a world-class option to bring off the bench waiting in reserve.
