‘The Miracle Worker’

Prime Stage Theatre presents “The Miracle Worker” at the New Hazlett Center for Performing Arts on the North Side. Written by William Gibson, it tells the story of a young Helen Keller, who was blind, deaf and struggling to connect. Her teacher, Annie Sullivan, played by Holland Taylor, brings her student into contact with the outside world.

Keller lost her sight and hearing at 19 months due to illness. She went on to become an author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer. She is portrayed by fifth grader Kendall Knotts, who worked with students from the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Edgewood.

The two-hour performance includes description for the blind and visually impaired, along with signed interpreted and real-time live captioning for patrons who are deaf or have hearing loss.

Shows are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a sensory inclusive matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
