DIE! DIE! DIE!

DEATH IS BROKEN in Anzenmezzeron, the great necropolis of a billion souls, living and (mostly) dead. You are a necromancer, partaker of the Black Sacrament and master of the devouring dead. Fresh from the grave, you set your sights on the terrible treasure at the center of the city: the End of Death. Will you find it within your grasp, or will you lose yourself in the swirling hellscape of the city?

Magnagothica: Maleghast is a two to four player skirmish war-game designed for virtual tabletop by Tom Bloom (author of Lancer RPG and others).

Inspired by extreme metal music, gothic horror, and comics, this book also functions as a convenient art book and listening guide. Packed with pages of unholy abominations, you will love gazing into the horrifying abyss. Included in this purchase is the full color .pdf plus an asset pack of the over 30 different units in the game for your use.

Take the role of a master necromancer and dive into unconscionable violence. Choose one of six great houses and raise the dead! Praise the devils! Assemble your Black Mass of ghouls, deformed servants, and freaks and partake in tactical necromancer action.

You’ll come back, even if you are torn apart.

They always do.

Me, waiting for community copies to be a thing :(.

(+3)

Am I the only one that thinks that the “Exorcist” looks like Father Anderson from Hellsing

(+2)

it's been awhile but can you please release this in Pages format and not Spreads? we can't print this correctly when its in Spreads and people have been asking...

(+2)

I would commit ungodly acts for a physical version of your games. They're the most inspired and fun games I've seen in ages, and I just need more of their settings and lore!

(+1)(-1)

Where can I find home brew?

(+1)

There are two on Itch.io, just search up maleghast and you'll find it. Theres also a homebrew channel in the Lancer discord.

(+1)

Is the Bonus Trait "Rapid Move" for the Chirurgeon supposed to trigger on the start of, the end of, or the start of end of your turn? The last option is what the text says but I wasn't sure if it's a typo.

(+9)(-2)

Is there a way for the community to expand the lore or contribute to it as happens with Warhammer or Trench Crusade? I am completely in love with the dead souls. I see that there is little lore around this and other factions and I would love to contribute something to the dead souls in particular, whether by designing units, main characters/heroes, etc., simply for the love of art and the interesting concept of the faction. and the game itself, it would be a pleasure and an honor sincerely

(1 edit) (+3)(-1)

I second this! I would love to be able to help with lore if the developers are at all interested, especially the Abhorrers and the Igorri. I would love to for the sake of love for the setting itself. I really enjoy this game setting and the lore that is there. It would be amazing to help out in anyway!

I’m not an artist but I have lots of personal creative writing experience, and can send in a sample if desired. I also have some video game design experience on a college level.

(+11)(-4)

It's just called making a headcanon. Go wild, make whatever stories you want in this setting, but don't expect the creators to make them canon. That doesn't happen for Warhammer or Trench Crusade either, fans just make headcanons that you incorporate into your personal headcanon.

(+8)

i still wish there was a physical version of this and maybe in the future campaign stuff

(+2)(-2)

I would buy that

(+1)(-3)

I DID BUY THAT HA-HA!!!!

how?

(-2)

Click on the viy tab, its a pdf. It also is a computer game you play against other people. If you get a 3d printer you could turn it into a irl Table Top Wargame

(+1)

oh, I wanted an actual physical book. dang

(+1)

Page 12, on the "Units" part there is a typo in the point 9. Upgrades.
Hope it helps, love your work.

(+1)

Page 19, Splash and line effect, Paragraph 2, Penultimate line, "on" appears twice.

(+1)

Wish there was a physical copy! Just for the art alone!

(+2)

The unit asset files don't seem to include necromancers (they have profile pics, but nothing to put on the table). Am I missing something, or are we supposed to draw our own?

(+1)

Hey, I think I found a typo? In the "Movement" section of page 10. it says "a unt may never act in the middle of a move".

(+3)

Do you reckon we'll ever get miniatures for this game? I would love to play in person 40K style, especially with such cool creatures and characters!

(+5)(-9)

Me, waiting for community copies to be a thing. OwO?

Hi!

What abilities can I choose in heresy mode? and where are they used? For the fighters of another great house I have chosen, or for the fighters of my own faction?

(+2)

Could you clarify something for me?:

Some abilities list an exhaustive range (range 1-2 for example), but others only say a specific number (such as range 4). Does this mean that the latter can only hit a unit exactly at four spaces away, or is it intended to be able to hit anything in range 1-4?

(1 edit) (+2)

"Abilities have a minimum range of 1 by default, but may have a higher minimum range (range 2-4, for example, meaning adjacent characters or spaces cannot be targeted)" - p16.

So a ability with range 4 has a minimum range of 1 and thus can affect anything within 4, not just units that are exactly four spaces away. Abilities with a specified range (like 2-3) are limited to that range.

There's at least one case where there's a specified range of 1-X (the Homonculus' flesh whip is range 1-2, there may be others that I missed), but range 1-2 should be functionally the same as range 2. I assume this is just a formatting inconsistency.

I was hoping that was the case, but wanted to put it out into the world to make sure I wasn’t just ruling in my own favor.

I absolutely love your work. The art, the mechanics, the flava. It’s all so brilliant. Thank you for being awesome!

(+2)

update 2 when

any recommendations for a VTT to use for this? i have very little experience with them.

(+1)

I've seen most games on roll20 which has decent support and a lot of players have tables already set up. There's a pack floating around for Foundry but I haven't fiddled with it yet. Tabletop Simulator also has an excellent mod table that looks fantastic and has some of the more popular homebrew offerings as well as some alternate art to help differentiate things a bit. Hope this helps o7

thank you! il look into these

If the folks you play with are willing to check out TaleSpire; I don't see why you couldn't run this on a 3D VTT.

Hi, your games are absolutely peak! I was wondering if I could use some of the rules of your game for my own tabletop projects as they are very simple yet have a complex mix!

(+1)

It's just so freaking good. Tom Bloom continues doing what Tom Bloom does. The aesthetic is amazing, the rules easy to learn, but the game has plenty to master. Final Fantasy Tactics meets chess meets a heavy metal album kept in a flooding garage. I'd say Tom should charge more, but the price only furthers the aesthetic.

(+1)

Damn it now i want minis of these units so bad now

(+1)

I really love the game! I played it with my friends and it is very entertaining, the mechanics are very simple to play but you can plan good strategies. It seems a combination between Dorohedoro and Into The Breach, and I love it!

I'm a Game Developer and for the love of art I'm going to see if I can turn it into a prototypical game jasjsajaja. If i got any news or advance ill send all of you a new message

(1 edit)

the picture on page 11 confused me a bit, at first i thought it was trying to say you could split a move with an act in the middle. then i realized it was just illustrating two different scenarios (mv+act or mv+mv). maybe throw in an "or" or a "/" in the pic.

very cool game, looking forward to trying it out! hoping for some kind of physical print option in the future.

(+3)

Will there be a TTRPG of this made as well?

(+2)

I'd totally love to see it happen... At least, expand more on the lore about Anzenmezzeron, this seems like a rad setting

(+1)

Love the game so far! I am working towards starting a league of my own for the game! How would you recommend to structure the league? Also I notice for the longer play section that the unit cap is reduced to 4, do you mean 9 units for longer games or is 4 the correct number?

if you mean the 10x10 map modes, then the reduced number is because it's meant for 3-4 players i think

Thank you for the reply but I was referring to the attached image: on page 14 on the pdf or 21 in the book. I was unsure of the clarity of the stated rules for number of units. Because I have trouble seeing how a reduced number of units increases the game time.

To clarify, "larger game" means more players on a larger board. On the next page, Slaughter and Brawl are both listed as 4 players and 10x10, as opposed to Duel which is 2 players and 8x8. Maleghast doesn't really have rules for scaling up to a longer game, at least not yet.

I see it now, thank you for clarifying!

(+2)

Is there any way to get this in pages instead of spreads, i want to print out a copy and I am having issues.  Also, this is amazing, keep up the good work.

Replying for support o7 I ended up just doing the second page onward and stapling it to flip through but having a legit booklet like Space Weirdos would be so much better T_T

(+5)

I can export a single page version for download w/ the next version

If you can that'd be awesome, thanks so much. Not to prod (because I know you do a lot between Lancer and webcomics and such) but do you know when you might get the time for the next update?

Be much Appreciated, thanks Tom

oh sweet! yeah, i just bought it. wanting to print it out as well but realized the pages in the PDF are done in a way that would make that tricky.

This is so fucking COOOOL

(+1)

Amazing game, my friends and I have been loving it. One issue is that the PDF is in image format, and so we aren't able to Ctrl+F to what we want. Apart from formatting issues, this game has been amazing fun. 10/10, please make more.

(+4)

I will try and export the next version with un-embedded text

(+1)

This game is honestly astoundin

(+1)

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS!

(+2)

Is there a online community to find games to run for this? Like a LFG discord or reddit page? Don't have too many friends interested in playing TTRPGs

You might be able to find people on Pilot Net. A discord server for the TTRPG Lancer, made by the same guy.

(+6)

Will there be a way to gain the text of the book? The pdf treats all the pages like images. So I can't just copy the text to Roll20 to speed up of the unit creation process.

(+8)

Just here to second the "Please publish a pages version for ease of printing" and say the art is amazing. I haven't gotten the chance to play yet but I've been watching 11dragonkid's videos and it'll hit my tabletop soon.

(+4)

Thirded!
A print-friendly version would be greatly appreciated.

(+5)

Just played my first game of this, and man, is it a blast! After being immersed in Warhammer 40K for so long, it's great to have a game that's a little easier to jump into. The worldbuilding, art, and faction depth are all incredible! I would love expansions (or just more content in this world), but what's here is wonderful, elegant, and so much fun. 9/10, this is my new favorite wargame!

(+1)

UUU wow, art looks amazing :)

(+1)

is also way to pay with ideal with euros?

(+4)

Please provide a single-page layout version of the PDF, the current spreads-as-one-page thing makes it impossible to print.

agreed!

(+3)

Linux command-line steps to make a single-page version:

pdftoppm -png Maleghast_666_Update1.pdf Maleghast

convert Maleghast*.png -crop 2x1@ 'out-%02d.png'

rm out-00.png out-01.png

cp Maleghast-01.png out-01.png

img2pdf out-*.png -o Maleghast_666_single.pdf

(+1)

thanks for this. i’m on macos so i’m sure i could just cut each pdf page separately. he really just needs to release it in pages!

this worked brilliantly, thank you :)

this is great, thank you! Also, you can use ocrmypdf to add back in fulltext search.

ocrmypdf Maleghast_666_single.pdf Maleghast_666_single_ocr.pdf
