Newborn’s body found abandoned in plastic jar at Thanjavur farm
Trichy: The dead body of a newborn boy was stuffed in a plastic jar commonly used in grocery stores for keeping candies and was found abandoned at a coconut farm near a primary health centre at Andikaadu village in Thanjavur district on Tuesday.
Farmowner Gunaselan spotted the dead body of the infant and informed Sethubavachathiram police.
Police inspector Durairaj and his team arrived at the spot and conducted an inquiry. They recovered the body and sent it to Peravurani GH for postmortem. The body was then taken to Govt Raja Mirasudhar Hospital in Thanjavur.
"We are going through footage of CCTV cameras in the area. We have collected a list of recently born babies in the area from the primary health centre. We are not ruling out involvement of non-locals," inspector Durairaj told TOI. "A thorough investigation will be conducted and the accused involved will be identified at the earliest."
Police are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain if the infant was alive when he was put into the plastic jar.
