Dhami hints at UCC implementation delay, says date to be out soon

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the formation of a Pravasi Uttarakhand Council at the 'Pravasi Uttarakhandi Sammelan'. The council aims to help non-resident Uttarakhandis connect with their heritage and support state projects. Dhami also revealed that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implementation date in Uttarakhand will be announced soon after government employee training is completed.

DEHRADUN: Addressing the ‘Pravasi Uttarakhandi Sammelan’ attended by non-resident people of the state at Doon University on Thursday, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the establishment of a Pravasi Uttarakhand Council to assist them in staying connected with their heritage and offer support for setting up projects in the state.
The CM acknowledged the impact of people who migarted from Uttarakhand, who he said had made a “distinct mark at national and international levels in various fields such as education, research, bureaucracy, film production, industry, and trade.”
“Our non-resident Uttarakhandis are promoting their language and culture in different states of the country,” Dhami further said.
In a significant announcement, the CM said that the date for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand will be announced soon, hinting at a delay from the planned Nov 9, the state foundation day, for enforcement of the code.
“Following a review of the rules and regulations report submitted by a committee, we will hold thorough training sessions for govt employees, after which the law will be implemented,” he said.
Previously, the UCC implementation had been scheduled for Nov 9. With the state’s foundation day just a day away, Dhami also unveiled the logo for Uttarakhand’s silver jubilee year. Earlier, a number of sessions were held as part of the ‘Pravasi Sammelan.’ In the first session, discussions were held on the economy of the state and possibilities of investment in tourism.
Among the panelists were Col Ashwini Pundir, additional CEO (Adventure), Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board who spoke about potential of adventure tourism, Rajat Jain of Sunfox Technologies who shared views on environment-friendly technical solutions and Sanjay Sharma, who elaborated on glamping and eco-tourism.In the second session, experts focussed on possibilities in agriculture, horticulture and village development in the state.
