Skoda Auto India has entered much competitive sub-compact SUV segment by launching the new Skoda Kylaq SUV in the Indian market. The Kylaq is based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and will measure less than four metres in length. The Kylaq goes up against already established players such as Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO and other sub-compact SUVs in its segment. The Skoda Kylaq compact SUV is available in four variants - Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. Prices for the model start at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), with the full price list to be disclosed later. Bookings for this compact SUV will begin on December 2, and deliveries are slated to begin from January 27, 2025. The XUV 3XO is offered in nine variants - MX1, MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro, AX5, AX5 L, AX7 and AX7 L with prices ranging from Rs 7.79 lakh to 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comparing the dimensions, both come under the sub-compact SUV segment which means they measure under 4 meters in length. The Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, 1975 mm in width, 1575 mm in height and has a 2,566 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 189 mm. It has 17-inch alloy wheels and 446 litres of boot space.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO measures 3,990 mm in length, 1821 mm in width, 1647 mm in height and has a 2,600 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 201 mm. It has 17-inch alloy wheels and has 364 litres of boot space. The Kylaq has 5 mm extra length, 154 mm extra width and 82 litres of extra boot space. However, the 3XO has 34 mm extra wheelbase, 722 mm extra height and 12 mm extra ground clearance.

In terms of features, both SUVs comes packed with all the necessary features however, the XUV comparatively gets more. The XUV 3XO gets a free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, AdrenoX connected car tech, Harman/Kardon 7 speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 65W Type C charging port, ambient lighting, 360-degree surround camera, leatherette seats, revised centre console, and rear AC vents, rear type-C charging port and more.

In terms of safety, all variants get 6 airbags, rear disc brakes, ESP, and ISOFIX anchors as standard across all variants Higher-spec versions get an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, hill-start and hill descent assist, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor and Level 2 ADAS which is a segment-first.
The Kylaq gets an 8.0-inch fully digital cluster, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, powered both front seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. Comparing the engine options, the Kylaq is offered with a sole 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

In XUV 3XO, the entry-level MX1, MX2 PRO, MX3 and AX5 variants are offered with a 111hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Another engine is the 117hp, 1.5-litre turbo diesel paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox. The AX5L and higher variants are powered by the 130hp, 1.2-litre turbo direct injection petrol unit, which comes paired with an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic and 6-speed manual gearbox.
