The first season of The Mandalorian was announced on November 9, 2017. It consists of eight episodes. It debuted with "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" on November 12, 2019 on Disney+, and concluded with "Chapter 8: Redemption" on December 27, 2019.

Premise[]

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, lawlessness has spread throughout the galaxy. A lone gunfighter makes his way through the outer reaches, earning his keep as a bounty hunter.

Development[]

On November 9, 2017, Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger announced a live-action Star Wars TV series to air on its entertainment streaming service that was expected to launch by the end of 2019.

On October 3, 2018, executive producer and writer Jon Favreau provided the title and premise for the series via his Instagram.

On October 4, 2018, StarWars.com officially announced The Mandalorian, along with a first image of the protagonist and a list of directors and executive producers, including Dave Filoni, who would direct the first episode.

On December 12, 2018, StarWars.com revealed the cast of The Mandalorian, including Pedro Pascal in the title role.

Sometime prior to February 15, 2019, production on the first season wrapped.

On August 23, 2019 at the D23 Expo, an official trailer and poster were released.

Release[]

On November 12, 2019, the first episode of The Mandalorian was released on Disney+, followed by Friday releases occurring weekly from November 15, 2019. In order to avoid a clash between the series and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the seventh episode of The Mandalorian was released on December 18, 2019, a Wednesday. The season concluded with the release of the eighth and final episode on December 27, 2019.
