TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Transportation plans to raise the maximum fine for unruly behavior at train stations to NT$7,500 (US$240), reports said Saturday.
The fines would start at NT$1,500 and target running around on platforms, crossing the safety line on platforms, walking the wrong way on escalators, and failing to heed orders from staff, per CNA. Members of the public have 60 days beginning Friday to voice their opinions on the proposals.
The process will also include reviews by experts, a report to the Cabinet, and a submission of the proposed changes to the Legislative Yuan. The revisions will require amendments to the Railway Act, the ministry said.
The new fines will also apply to the unauthorized opening of closing of train doors, standing in the way in front of doors, entering or leaving stations and trains without ticket checks, and the unauthorized setting up of stalls on a train or inside a station area.
Handing out leaflets, collecting donations, selling products, or taking pets without having obtained permission will also be subject to fines under the proposed amendments.
Another proposal mentioned the ministry revoking the license of train drivers found driving under the influence of drugs.
