If youâre in the YouTube Partner Program and want to make money through ads, make sure your content follows our advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
All content must follow guidelines
We take all aspects of your content into account. When we talk about content, we mean your:
- Video, Short, or live stream content
- Title
- Thumbnail
- Description
- Tags
To be suitable for ads, all your content must meet our advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
Add context to your videos
Context is key. If thereâs educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic value, that may change a videoâs suitability for advertisers. For example, if youâre showing how to use cocaine to get âhigh,â thatâs not suitable for ads, so you should not turn on ads for that video. But, if your video shows cocaine being used as part of a medical procedure, it may be OK for some advertisers.
Adding context also helps us make the correct monetization decision. Our systems donât always get it right. If our systems mark your video as not suitable for all advertisers, you can request human review. Our human reviewers will assess your content and context to make a final monetization decision.

Turn off ads for content that is not advertiser friendly
If you want to upload content that does not follow our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, you should turn off ads on individual videos. This option allows you to opt out of monetization for any videos that are not advertiser friendly while you remain in the YouTube Partner Program.
