Resolve asset ownership conflicts

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.

Conflicts over asset ownership happen when multiple content owners assert over 100% ownership of an asset in a specific territory.

View ownership conflicts

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Issues.
  3. Click the filter bar   and select Issue type and then Ownership conflict and then APPLY.
    • You can also get here directly from the Dashboard page by clicking the Ownership conflicts link.
    • To sort the list, click a column name. You can sort by: expiration date, asset title, asset creation date, affected daily views, lifetime views, number of claimed videos affected, or duration.
    • To narrow your search, click the filter bar  again and add more filters.
Notes:
  • Active monetization claims based on the asset’s reference are typically postponed until the conflict is resolved.
  • If different content owners set different match policies (track, monetize, block) for the same asset’s claims, the most restrictive policy gets applied.

Act on ownership conflicts

From the Issues page, you can find more details about the other content owners asserting ownership in the same territories as you. You can remove your ownership, request an ownership transfer, or message the content owners:

  1. In the Issue column, click an Ownership conflict link next to an Asset title.
    • The Ownership conflict page will open. This page shows details about the territories where that asset’s ownership is in conflict.
    • You can filter  the list by Territory or Other party.
  2. Click the checkbox next to a territory or territories.
  3. Select either ADJUST OWNERSHIP or REMOVE OWNERSHIP:
    • ADJUST OWNERSHIP: Select this option if your territorial ownership is accurate and you want to request an ownership transfer from the other content owner(s). Learn more.
    • REMOVE OWNERSHIP: Select this option if you've incorrectly or mistakenly asserted territorial ownership for an asset. It will revoke your ownership of that asset from the territories you’ve selected. If you want to remove ownership on multiple assets, go to the next section, Remove ownership info in bulk.
  4. If you have a question for a content owner, you can click Email owner  next to their name. A message template addressed to their email will pop up. You can edit the email or keep it as is. When you’re done, click SEND.
To check the status of your ownership conflicts, go to the Issues page and filter by Issue typeand thenOwnership conflict, then click Status and choose Action required, Waiting on, or Resolved.

  3. Click REMOVE OWNERSHIP.
  4. Select either Global or Specific territories:
    • Global: Select this option if you've incorrectly or mistakenly asserted global ownership of the assets you selected in Step 2.
    • Specific territories: Select this option if you've incorrectly or mistakenly asserted ownership of the assets you selected in Step 2 in specific territories.
      • If you select Specific territories, click the text box and add the territories you want to remove ownership from. You can also begin entering a territory name and select it from the dropdown.
