Change the look and feel of your search engine

The Look and Feel section lets you customize the look and feel, style of your search engine search box and search results pages to match your site's layout and design. You have options to select a layout, chose or make your own theme, select and customize a design for your page, and disable or enable thumbnails in search results.

Choose a layout for your search engine:

  1. From the list of search engines, select the search engine you want to edit.
  2. Click Overview and scroll down to Look and Feel. Click on "All look and feel settings".
  3. Under Look and Feel, select the layout you'd like to use for your search engine. You can choose from 8 layouts for your search results to either overlay over the page, open on a separate page, open in a different column, and more.
  4. In the Theme section, select the theme you want from the drop down and click on Save button.
  5. In the Customize  section, select the "Search element", "Search result" and "Promotion" style you want. To make changes to your selected style, click Save.
  6. You can Preview the changes under "Search element" and "Search result".
  7.  When you're happy, scroll up to Layout section and click on the Get Code blue button. Then copy the code to paste into your site, replacing the existing code snippet.
Note: Anytime you change the layout of your search engine, you must update your code snippet for your changes to appear. Click Save and Get Code, then copy the code and paste it into your site, replacing the existing code snippet.

If you select a layout that separates the search box and results, you'll get two snippets of code, one for the box and one for the results. Make sure you put each where you want that element to go.

Likewise, when you change from a layout with two snippets to a layout with one for both search and results, you will need to match the layout by replacing one snippet in the page's HTML and removing the other snippet.

To use a premade theme for your search engine:

  1. From the list of search engines, select the search engine you want to edit.
  2.  Click Overview and scroll down to Look and Feel. Click on "All look and feel settings".
