How a CSS can access your Merchant Center account

The access a CSS has to a Merchant Center account depends on the setup and access levels of that account.

Merchant Center accounts associated with a CSS can be one of the following:

  • A Standalone or multi-client account (MCA): Merchants provide access to the CSS in the “Account access” page under the “CSS users” section.
  • Sub-account of an MCA: Access is defined on the MCA level and propagated to all sub-accounts. The following line will show in the “Account access” page under the “CSS users” section: “Roles assigned in primary account”.
Note: If your Merchant Center account is a sub-account of an MCA, the following banner will show in the “Account access” page: “Users of your primary account have access to this account as well”.

The access rights of a CSS user are determined by the CSS user’s access as defined by the CSS admin in CSS Center and the access rights you’ve defined in the Merchant Center account for your CSS.

Note: If you've provided access to a CSS in the “CSS users” section, users of that CSS can access your Merchant Center account and you don’t need to add them separately.

CSSs requiring access to associated Merchant Center accounts

A CSS can require a minimum access level to your Merchant Center account or change the required access level at any time. You’ll be notified:

  • Via an email sent to your admin users and in the Merchant Center notification panel: This will occur if a CSS has filed a request to set up or change the required access level.
  • In an account switch request: This will occur if you’re switching to a CSS that requires a minimum access level.
