Nest video clip timestamp

Timestamps are only available for cameras set up with the Nest app, this feature isn’t available in the Home app.

When you download a video clip from the Nest app, it comes with timestamps that are visible when you turn on English subtitles. This comes in handy when you want to know when your video clip was recorded.

For example, if your Google Nest camera records a burglar breaking into your home, you have a video clip with the date and time to give to the police. Or if your camera captures your child’s first steps, the video clip can let you know exactly how and when it happened.

Nest camera timestamps aren’t permanently recorded on top of your video clips like timestamps from traditional camcorders. Instead, you can show or hide them whenever you want.

Display the timestamp in a video clip

Note: Timestamps are not saved with timelapses (footage that has been sped up to show several minutes or hours in a few seconds).

1. Download a video clip to your computer.
2. Open the downloaded video clip in a video player that supports subtitles.
3. In your video player’s settings, turn on English subtitles to see the timestamp. 
4. After you turn on English subtitles, the timestamp should show at the bottom of the video with the date and time of the recording. Turn subtitles off to hide the timestamp again.

Tip: You can also find the date and time of video clips saved in the video clip library at home.nest.com:

1. On the home page, select your camera.
2. Tap Clips  View clips. Each clip is labeled with the date and time it was recorded.
