When you transfer your camera from the Nest app to the Google Home app, you'll be able to check and control that device in the Google Home app with your other Home app devices. Your settings, schedules, and notifications settings automatically transfers to the Home app.
- While most features are available in the Home app, some features are only available in the Nest app.
- If you decide that you don't want your camera in the Home app, you can switch back to the Nest app.
Eligibility
To transfer your legacy camera to the Google Home app, check that you meet the eligibility requirements:
- You must have a Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, Nest Cam IQ Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor, Nest Cam Indoor, or Nest Doorbell (wired, 1st gen), formerly known as Nest Hello.
- You can transfer your Nest Hub Max's camera to the Google Home app. Refer to Manage your Nest Hub Max cameras with the Google Home app for more details.
- Your Google Home app must be version 3.26 or higher.
- You must be in Public Preview in the Google Home app. Once you've successfully joined Public Preview, the Preview icon will appear on screen in the mobile app and Google Home for web. Learn how to join Public Preview.
- You must have a 2nd gen Nest Aware subscription or no subscription.
- Your Nest account must be migrated to a Google account.
You'll receive reminders that you can transfer a product from the Home app. Just tap the notification to start.
If you don't check the notification or you dismissed it, you can start the transfer in the device settings. When you transfer your device to the Home app, remember that:
- All your new camera history will now be stored and accessible in the Google Home app and on Google Home for web.
- Any camera history in the Nest app will be accessible until it expires.
- After you transfer your device, live video will only be available in the Google Home app and Google Home for web.
- Your camera settings, Activity zones, notifications settings, and schedules will be automatically transferred. Youâll need to set up Presence sensing again.
Transferring to the Home app requires a software update and may take up to 25 minutes. You'll receive a notification in the Google Home app when it's done.
Before you begin, check the following:
- You are the owner of the home in the Nest app.
- You have a Google account or have migrated your Nest account.
- You've installed the latest update for the Home app and your phone's OS.
Transfer device
- Open the Nest app and tap your device.
- Then select Settings Transfer to Home app.
- Check the criteria previously mentioned if your device is eligible for transfer.
- Review the information on the next page and click Continue.
- On the following page, you'll learn about what you can expect to happen when you transfer to the Home app. When you're ready, tap Transfer.
- Select the device you want to move and tap Transfer.
- Follow the remaining instructions in the app to complete the transfer.
To transfer to the Home app, your camera must either have no subscription, or a 2nd gen Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription that covers all devices in your home for one price. If you have a 1st gen subscription, you can upgrade or cancel.
Important: If you upgrade to a Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription, you won't be able to switch back to a 1st gen subscription.
The Home app has most of the same camera and doorbell features as the Nest app. However, the following features aren't available. These features are only available in the Nest app and are accessible if you migrate your camera or doorbell back to the Nest app.

You can go back to using the Nest app and transfer your devices there if you prefer. Before you do, take note of the following:
- Any history your device made in the Home app stays in the Home app until it expires. This includes video history for all cameras.
- All your device history will only be accessible in the Nest app.
- You'll need to set up notifications in the Nest app again. These notifications won't be imported from the Home app.
- You may want to review any routines you have set up for that device in the Home app as they may interfere with schedules in the Nest app.
Transfer device
- In the device settings in the Nest app, tap Transfer from the Home app.
- On the confirmation page, tap Continue.
- On the About page, tap Transfer.
- Tap Ok to return to the home page.
Troubleshoot transfer issues
If you can't find your camera in the Nest app after you've transferred it back from the Home app, you'll need to set it up again. Follow these instructions to set up your camera in the Nest app.
- Open the Nest app .
Note: If you have more than one home in your account, make sure to select the Nest home where you want to install your camera. Tap Menu to change homes.
- Tap Settings .
- Select Add product .
- Scan the QR code at the back of your camera. You can also tap Continue without scanning and type the numbers at the top of the QR code.
- Follow the rest of the on-screen prompts.
