Restart your Fitbit device to troubleshoot the following issues:
- Your device won't sync with the Fitbit app
- Your device is unresponsive to taps, swipes, or button presses
- Your device's display is blank or frozen
- Your device doesn't register steps or other data
- Your device doesn't show notifications or reminders
A restart turns your device off and on without the loss of any activity data.
Fitbit Ace series
- Plug the charging cable into a USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable should lock securely with the port. You know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you notice a battery icon on the display. Your tracker will begin charging.
- Press the button on your charging cable 3 times within a few seconds, with a short pause between each click. The button is on the end of the charging cable that connects to your computer. When the Fitbit logo appears and the tracker vibrates, your tracker has restarted.
- Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, check How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press and hold the button or buttons on your tracker for 5 seconds.
- Release the button. When the tracker vibrates and shows a smile icon, your tracker has restarted.
Fitbit Alta series
- Plug the charging cable into a USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable should lock securely with the port. You know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you notice a battery icon on the display. Your tracker will begin charging.
- Press the button on your charging cable 3 times within a few seconds, with a short pause between each click. The button is on the end of the charging cable that connects to your computer. When the Fitbit logo appears and the tracker vibrates, your tracker has restarted.
- Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.
Fitbit Charge series
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Insert the other end into the port on the back of your tracker.
- Press and hold the button for 10 to 12 seconds, until it displays the Fitbit icon and a version number (e.g. "V30").
- Let go of the button, and unplug your tracker from the charging cable.
Factory Reset
Only follow the factory reset steps at the direction of Fitbit Customer Support.
A factory reset deletes any stored data, which includes all data that hasn't synced to your Fitbit account and your alarms, goals, and notifications. After a factory reset, you must set up your tracker again.
- Attach the charging cable to your tracker and plug the other end into a USB port.
- Press and hold the button for approximately 2 seconds and, with the button still pressed down:
- Disconnect the charging cable from your tracker.
- Wait about 7 to 9 seconds.
- Release the button and hold it down again.
- After "ALT" appears on the screen and it flashes white, release the button and hold it down again.
- After you feel a vibration, let go of the button and hold it down again.
- When "ERROR 0X01" appears on the screen, release the button and hold it down again.
- When "ERASE" appears on the screen, release the button. The tracker will turn off.
- To turn your tracker back on, press the button or connect it to the charging cable. If the time on your tracker reads 0:00, the reset is successful.
- Set up your tracker as a new device. For instructions, refer to How do I set up my Fitbit device?
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or a UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
- Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. Youâll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and displays a battery icon. Your Charge 2 will begin charging.
- Press and hold the button on your tracker for 4 seconds. When the Fitbit logo appears and the tracker vibrates, your device has restarted.
Open the Settings app on your device and tap About Reboot Device.
If your tracker is unresponsive:
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
- Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. Youâll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you notice a battery icon on your trackerâs display.
- Press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When the tracker vibrates and shows a smile icon, the tracker has restarted.
- Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app .
- Tap the Settings app Restart Device Restart.
If your device is unresponsive:
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, refer to How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times with one-second pause between each press. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.
Another way to restart your device is to unplug it, wait a second, and plug it back in. Repeat this process 3 times in an 8 seconds interval and then wait 10 seconds until the device restarts.
Fitbit Inspire series
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, check How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press and hold the button or buttons on your tracker for 5 seconds.
- Release the button. When the tracker vibrates and shows a smile icon, your tracker has restarted.
Tap the Settings app and tap Reboot Device.
If your device is unresponsive:
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, refer to How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press and hold the buttons on your tracker for 10 seconds.
- Release the buttons. When the tracker vibrates and shows a smile icon, the tracker has restarted.
- Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app and then tap the app to open it.
- Swipe up and tap Restart Device.
- Swipe up and tap Restart.
If your device is unresponsive:
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, refer to How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press and hold the buttons on your tracker for 10 seconds.
- Release the buttons. The tracker has restarted when it vibrates and the Fitbit logo shows up.
Fitbit Luxe
- Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app .
- Tap the Settings app Restart Device Restart.
If your device is unresponsive:
- Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, refer to How do I charge my Fitbit device?
- Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times with one-second pause between each press. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.
You can also restart your device in another way. Disconnect the device from the charging cable, wait one second, then reconnect. Repeat this process 3 times within an 8-second interval. After that, wait 10 seconds for the device to restart.
Fitbit Sense series
Press and hold the button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen, and then release the button.
Fitbit Versa series
Press and hold the left button and the bottom-right button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen, and then release both buttons.
Press and hold the button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen, and then release the button.
Other devices
- Press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you notice the Fitbit logo on the screen.
- Let go of the buttons.
- If you still have issues with your device, turn it off and turn it back on. For more information, check out How do I turn off my Fitbit device?
- Plug your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Remove the pebble from the band and insert it into the charging cable.
- Insert a paperclip into the small pinhole on the back of the charger.
- Press on the pinhole for 3 to 4 seconds.
- Take your tracker out of the charger and insert it back into the band.
- Plug your charging cable into your computer.
- Plug Fitbit One into the charging cable. Note: Make sure that the gold contacts on the tracker align with the gold contacts on the charger.
- Hold the button on your tracker for 12 seconds.
- Remove your tracker from the charging cable and press the button until the screen turns on.
- Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) on Surge until the screen flashes or starts to dim (about 15 seconds).
- Let go of the buttons.
- After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and press the Home button to turn Surge back on.
- Tap the battery door with the battery door tool and remove the battery.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Place the battery back into the tracker with the plus icon + side up, and close the door. You'll notice your tracker's version number, followed by a series of smiley faces.
