- Create tables.
- Create formulas.
- Generate data analysis and insights.
- Build charts and graphs.
- Summarize your files from Drive and emails from Gmail.
Feature availability
- This feature is available as part of our early access testing program, Google Workspace Labs.
- To turn off Google Workspace Labs features, exit the Workspace Labs program.
- This feature is also available to users on work or school accounts through a Gemini for Google Workspace add-on, and to users on personal accounts through Google One AI Premium. Learn about Gemini features and plans.

You can use the Gemini in Sheets side panel in some languages. Learn more about language availability.
Get started with Gemini in Sheets
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- In the side panel, select a suggested prompt or write your own prompt. Select a suggestion
- Select from the list of suggestions.
- To get more options, select More suggestions.
- At the bottom, in the prompt box, replace the example text with the information you want.
- Press Enter.
- At the bottom, in the prompt box, enter a prompt.
- Press Enter.
- Select from the list of suggestions.
- Optional: To remove your history, click More options Clear history.
Tip: To avoid losing your history, insert generated output in the spreadsheet. You lose your conversation history when:
- You reload your browser.
- You close and reopen the spreadsheet.
- Your computer goes offline.

Things to ask Gemini in Sheets
Summarize spreadsheet with GeminiWhen you open a spreadsheet that has data, in the side panel, youâll find a summary of your spreadsheet.
You can:
- To show the whole summary of the suggested content, click View more.
- To send feedback about the suggested text, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
You can also ask Gemini to:
- Understand your spreadsheet better. Examples of prompt:
- âSummarize this spreadsheet.â
- âExplain this spreadsheet like I'm 5 years old.â
You can use Gemini to create tables in Sheets.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- In the side panel, select a prompt or create your own. Examples of prompt:
- âCreate a table for a full day team event.â
- âCreate a trip plan for a vacation in a national park.â
- âCreate a social media tracker for marketing.â
- Press Enter.
- (Optional):
- To add the table to your spreadsheet, click Insert .
- To see a different version, click Retry .
- To refine before inserting a table, you can add follow-up prompts. Examples of prompt:
- âAdd another 5 rows of different activities.â
- âAdd details on cost.â
- To send feedback about the suggested table, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
You can use Gemini to generate formulas in Sheets.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- You can also start from any cell and enter

You can use Gemini to answer questions about the data in your sheet.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- In the side panel, create your own prompt with references from your sheet or generic cell names. Examples of prompts:
- "Identify trends in this table."
- "How can I show regression and prediction of this data?"
- "What analysis can you help me perform with this sheet?"
- "Help me understand month-to-month food prices."
You can use Gemini to generate charts and graphs.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- In the side panel, create your own prompt with references from your sheet or generic cell names. Examples of prompts:
- "Create a chart with date on the x-axis and total on the y-axis."
- "Make a line chart."
- "Create a graph that shows the percentage of expenses on the total stipend after tax."
- "Make a chart analyzing my expenses for the month."
Tip: You can't edit generated charts. They're static images unlinked from the data in Sheets.
You can use Gemini to reference files from your Drive to generate responses in Sheets.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
- In the side panel, ask Gemini to use your Drive files to generate text.
- Example: âWhat are the main points of: Meeting Notes: Core Team sync.â
- To check which files were used, below the response, click Expand Sources.
- (Optional):
- To add the text to your spreadsheet, click Insert .
- To view an another version, click Retry .
- To send feedback about the suggested text, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
You can use Gemini to reference emails you sent to generate responses.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet from Google Sheets.
- At the top right, click Gemini in Sheets side panel .
- In the side panel, provide your prompt asking Gemini to reference Gmail email(s).
- Example: âCatch me up on the latest Monthly Review emails.â
- To check which files were used, below the response, click Expand Sources.
- (Optional):
- To add the text to your spreadsheet, click Insert .
- To generate a new suggestion, click Retry .
- To send feedback about the suggested text, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
- âTeach me how to use conditional formatting with a color scale.â
- âHow can I remove duplicates?â

Give feedback on generated output
Gemini for Google Workspace is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request. Because feedback may be human readable, please do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.
If you get a suggestion thatâs inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.
- At the bottom right of the generated text, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
- If you select Bad suggestion , you can select the issue you found and enter additional feedback.
- Optional:
- To review data thatâll be attached with your feedback, at the bottom, select the data.
- If you donât want to include the data with your feedback, to help us improve the product experience, uncheck the box next to âAttach collected data to your feedback.â
- Optional:
- Click Next.
- Review additional context that you can share with your feedback. If you donât want to include the additional context with your feedback, uncheck the box next to âAdditional context.â
- Click Submit.

Turn off Gemini in Sheets
To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs, you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, youâll permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you wonât be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.

- Your conversations with Gemini in Sheets are not saved to Gemini Apps Activity. When you delete your Gemini in Sheets conversation history, it doesn't delete any information that is saved to your Gemini Apps Activity. Learn how to delete your Gemini Apps Activity.
- Generated images are for use only within Google Sheets.
- Workspace Labs generated images are designed to bring your imagination to life in Sheets, and may not represent real world situations.
How Workspace Labs data in Google Sheets is collected
When you use the Gemini in Sheets side panel, Google uses and stores the following data:
- Prompts you enter or select
- Generated content
- Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
- Your feedback on the Gemini in Sheets side panel.
