Use or upgrade an old Chromebook

Older Chromebooks have older hardware parts, and these parts eventually lose the ability to get the latest updates.

If you have a Chromebook that was released from 2021 onwards, you'll receive 10 years of updates. For older devices, you might see this message: "This device will no longer receive software updates. You can continue using your computer but should consider upgrading."

If you see this message, your Chromebook won’t get automatic software and security updates anymore. Try one of these options:

Upgrade to a new Chromebook

You can switch to a newer Chromebook. Browse this list to find a Chromebook that works for you.

Keep using your Chromebook

If your Chromebook is working well, you can keep using it. Just keep in mind that it won’t get any more software updates.

Note: If you’re using your Chromebook at work or school, ask your administrator for more information about your Chromebook's auto-update policy.
