After November 2019, if you use a carrier email for 2-step verification, you won't be able to receive verification codes until you update to a standard phone number.
Step 1: Add a supported verification method
Important: If you donât add a supported 2-step verification method, you may be locked out of your account.
- Go to your Google Account.
- On the left navigation panel, select Security.
- In the âHow you sign in to Googleâ section, select 2-Step Verification.
- Enter your password.
- On a device that is new or doesnât remember you, use your second factor as well.
- In the âSet up alternative second stepâ section, select one of the supported options.
- Follow the steps provided.

Step 2: Remove your carrier email from your 2-step verification information
Important: Before you try to remove your carrier email, add a supported verification option.
- Go to your Google Account.
- On the left navigation panel, select Security.
- In the âHow you sign in to Googleâ section, select 2-Step Verification.
- Enter your password your verification code.
- In the âYour second stepâ section, next to your carrier email information, select Edit .
- Select Remove phone.
