A black hole was a celestial phenomenon which was the result of a large star experiencing a supernova following the end of its fusion reactions and their collapse into themselves.[1] A black expanse,[2] a black hole contained a singularity and possessed immense gravity, devouring all available matter[3] including light itself[1] or accumulating it in a region known as its accretion disk.[2]
A super-massive black hole that stars rotated around was located in the center of the galaxy.[4] It was called the Galactic Centre.[5]
By 40 BBY, it was possible to take pictures of a black hole from a point just shy of its event horizon. Obi-Wan's friend Jape sent Obi-Wan such images.[6]
The Akkadese Maelstrom sub-region around the Kessel sector contained a number of black holes, the most dangerous being The Maw. A cell of the criminal organization Crimson Dawn known as Beckett's gang, along with his partner Lando Calrissian and his female droid L3-37, fell in that black hole and were about to be sucked in, until they used the coaxium as a power source for the Millennium Falcon to escape the hole's gravity.[7]
Shortly after the formation of the Galactic Empire, Lieutenant Commander Orson Krennic, accompanied by Mas Amedda and several others, traveled to a binary black hole formation known as the Hero Twins, where they tested a prototype version of the superlaser that would eventually be installed on the Empire's planet-destroying battle station, the Death Star, by firing it at the deceased stars.[2]
The Executor-class Star Dreadnought Arbitrator, while attempting to escape a New Republic fleet, accidentally input erroneous hyperspace coordinates into its navicomputer, which caused it to exit hyperspace near a black hole, pulling the ship in and destroying it.[8]
