Hello everyone, I am Russian, I do not like my country very much and I can not go anywhere, I really need some programs, one of them is grub2win. Are there ways to install grub2win in Russia? I really need this program! (Translation may not be correct)
Grub2Win reads this Windows system registry key to get the secure boot status. A value of 0 means disabled 1 is enabled. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot\State\UEFISecureBootEnabled" So this is what Windows believes your secure boot status is. You may want to check the key yourself to see if your machine is correct. You can add Mint to your Grub2Win boot menu without harm. Just run Grub2Win and click the yellow "Manage Boot Menu" button. Then add a Mint entry and select...
App told me secure boot was not enabled. (It was) App didn't recognize my actual grub configuration. (Just wanted to set Windows as default. I already have A Linux Mint option set) I didn't want to break my actual configuration.
Hi again Patrick, It depends on a lot of factors. The old BIOS firmware may or may not find Windows on other drives. It varies from motherboard to motherboard. EFI firmware machines can have Windows anywhere. As long as the EFI firmware can find the EFI partition, you're golden. The most reliable way on non EFI machines like yours is to install all Windows OS items on drive 0. This works every time. Thanks, Dave
Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. I re-arranged the disks so that the Windows boot manager was on disk0 and everything now works correctly; thanks. I always thought that the disk numbers were purely a logical assignment and that the physical access was determined by other factors; also if Microsoft expects the boot manager to be on disk0 and I had it on disk2 (I searched for it and found it on Drive C: with the SHR attributes all set), how was my Windows OS booting up perfectly normally? just wondering...
Hi Patrick, I looked over your diagnostics and noticed something. Your Windows boot drive is on physical disk 2. On most BIOS firmware systems, Microsoft expects the Windows boot manager to be on physical disk 0. Placing the boot drive on other physical disks can cause a number of unusual boot errors. This is particularly true on systems with very old firmware such as yours (2012). I recommend that you re plug the disks drives on your system controller so that the Windows boot is on drive 0. Please...
When trying to install Grub2Win I got the following error: "Setup could not locate your windows BIOS boot manager file". Please see attached screen shot and sysinfo diagnostics files for more details. Could you please advise me as to how to solve this in order to install the Grub2Win application? Thanks Regards Patrick Philips.
Hi Fred, I responded to your diagnostics via email. Dave

I am facing a shut down issue in my Lenovo Thinkpad L480 Few days back I have installd chromeOS with the help of Brunch and grub2win Then I decided to remove chrome os and I deleted the partition from Windows and remove all the boot entery of brunch(chromeos) from grub2win app and then I installed a linux distribution I used that distribution 2-3 days without shutdown, and it was the first boot of linux dist then I shut down the laptop, next day when I power on the system, everything is working fine...
Hi again Stan, As I said. The Internet connection is absolutely required. It is deeply embedded in the code and cannot be removed without a complete rewrite. Dave
I understand but this is a working machine, maybe you can help?
Hi Stan, An Internet connection is required to install or run Grub2Win. The connection is used to validate the authenticity of the Grub2Win code. This is to prevent malware from fake Grub2Win code. Malware was a big problem before validation. Now it is not. Dave
Hi, is there any way to get an offline installer version of Grub2Win? I have a machine on which it is impossible to use the Internet
