natural light

Natural light can make for gorgeous product photos. Catch those shimmery tones or creamy textures in natural light by thinking ahead: which window gets the best light? what time of day? what angle? When working with your soona team, make sure to add your lighting preferences to your shot list.

Lifestyle photos allow customers to imagine your product in the situations and settings where they'll be most often used. Lifestyle shots can be created in any number of settings both indoors and outdoors. Finding the perfect room is essential to create attractive photos that tell the story of your brand and allow customers to imagine your products being used in their daily life. If you're looking for some creative ideas for lifestyle images, look for inspo on Pinterest, or talk to your photographer about different settings or styles that would make your products stand out!

colored backgrounds

Your background is a crucial message to your customer: it informs them about your brand content in a subconscious way. Here are some examples of the what colored backdrops communicates:

  • use a white or light blue background if your branding says “I’m fresh and clean”
  • use desert sage and warm sandy tones to say “I’m the outdoorsy type”

One of our favorite ways to capture the smallest of details is through macro shots. Shooting products, specifically with beauty product shots, it's important to show textures, consistency, color, and every unique feature. Typically, we'll capture swatches on a transparent background, colored backdrop, and even on models with different skin tones. That way, your customers get a greater sense of how the makeup or skincare will look and feel without needing to try it on in-store.
