These Toothless and Light Fury Dragon Cookies from the new movie, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in theaters February 22, are adorable and easy to make. Learn how to create them with just a few simple ingredients!
If your family is like mine, you will be so excited to know that there is a 3rd installment of the super kid-friendly movie, How To Train Your Dragon! We have loved this movie and all the characters since the first one came out a few years ago. To prep ourselves for a new story line…and a new dragon!…my kids and I created these fun dipped cookies in the likeness of the Night Fury, Toothless, himself as well as the newest dragon to make an appearance on the big screen, a Light Fury!
Here is a little bit about the newest movie, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World:
Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.Since my kids love Oreos, I thought it would be fun to try to create Toothless and the new Light Fury out of a dipped Oreo cookie…we had a blast creating these together and even Oliver’s little hands could help with making them.
To help us get started, we used this super cute Toothless plush as our muse! If you squeeze him he makes all sorts of dragon noises!
Toothless and Light Fury Dragon Cookies
Making these dipped cookies takes just a few simple ingredients. You will need:
- Sandwich Cookies
- Black Color Candy Melts
- White Color Candy Melts
- Watermelon and Blue Raspberry Airheads
- Black and White Colored Sprinkles
- Two Plastic Sandwich bags and pair of scissors to snip of an end
- Piece of Waxed Paper
- Tweezers
Paring knife or small cookie cutter
First, add about 1/4 cup of each candy melt into separate plastic bags, twist the bags to make a piping bag, and then melt them in the microwave according to the package directions. Once melted, snip off a tiny bit of one corner and squeeze the candy into large (1 inch) and small (1/2 inch) triangles onto the waxed paper. Let dry. These will be the ears and tufts on each dragon’s head.Once dry, place two large black triangles next to each other and then two smaller ones on each side and push gently into the sandwich cookie cream. Do the same with the white triangles for the Light Fury except place the two smaller triangles next to each other and two larger ones flanking the small ones on each side.So the beginnings of the Toothless Dipped Cookie will look like this!Next, take the watermelon and blue raspberry AirHeads and cut out small circles using a tiny cookie (fondant) cutter or a paring knife. Then, using your fingers, squeeze one side of the circle to make a tear drop shape. These will be Toothless and Light Fury’s eyes. Now place the rest of the candy melts into a bowl, separately by color, and microwave according to the package directions. Mix the candy melts until fully melted and let cool for a minute or two. Then, carefully dip each cookie into it’s respective color using a fork, depending on if it is a Light Fury or a Toothless dragon, and tap off any excess candy melt. Place the cookies onto the waxed paper to dry. But….before the cookies dry, add the eye color (green for Toothless and blue for Light Fury) and if you’d like you could add white or black sprinkles for the nose and for the ridges on the dragon faces like the picture below and above. We found it easier to use a pair of tweezers to add the sprinkles!Carefully dab a set of black sprinkles into the candy melt and gently place it over the eyes for the pupils of each dragon. And there you go, a Toothless and Light Fury Dipped Cookie just for you!
