NIMBYism

NIMBYism is a term that includes the acronym Not In My Backyard. People who follow NIMBYism can be called NIMBYs and often oppose new developments because they fear that property values would fall, that crime would skyrocket, that there would be vast pollution, etc.

Projects that are often subjected to NIMBYism include power plants, public transportation, mixed-use buildings, affordable housing developments like mobile home communities, and special needs housing, like group homes and assisted living facilities, etc.
