A downloadable Solo RPG Tool

Ultimate One Page RPG Toolkit
I play a lot of different RPG systems solo, and I have built, gathered, and adapted a bunch of tools to help with that. This project is a compact compilation of those tools in a 1 page (double sided) format and a pocketmod format. (Now in Booklet form too!) Everything you need to play any RPG solo in one easy booklet. The tools here are perfect for GMs of any exploration-based game too, along with my tools the Blank Hexmap and the Quest Generator

I recommend using a piece of tape to combine the two pocketmods into one little booklet as shown in the sidebar.

I couldn't grab any. I just followed you on twitter but can't send you DMs.

Have you experimented with legal sized paper for the pocketmods? It provides a bit more space to work with... Although you do need a bigger pocket!

I have not, tho that is a good idea! I wanted to print some maps and such and 11x17 is a lot more space

Um... legal size is 8-1/2 x 14 inches... I doubt most folks can print at 11x17 (ledger size)

oH OOPS yeah lol, I was thinking of the wrong size

Here is an interesting idea...

Woah, this is amazing, fantastic work. I love everything you have going on here. And thank you for providing in multiple formats. Endlessly useful!

thank you!

This thing is amazing and I love it

Question: In Hexcrawl Rules Cont. in the Random Events, it says you roll a d6, but the results go up to 12. Is that an error or am I missing something?

(1 edit)

Thanks for checking it out! Yes that is an error on an older version, the current version moves it into the front and corrects it to a d6 chart. There are a couple other errors on that older version too and I added a new encounter activity table too so I recommend downloading the current version :)

Oh, I didn't notice I had an older version, sorry! And thanks for answering!

Another quick question. Was the dungeon generator inspired/adapted from another source or was this something you built yourself?

I think I recognize where some of the other tables come from but don't see too many dungeon generators so was curious.

So, at some point this year, I saw a one-page dungeon flowchart in a Reddit comment. I wrote down the chart in my notebook and changed it over time as I used it. That's the version here.

Really liking what I see here! Any gudiance as to when it would be appropriate to roll on the change the scene and event seeds tables while using the oracle?

(1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for checking it out! I typically use them to determine the nature of the And and But modifiers to the yes and no. Example: My characters had tied up a spy they found and left him in a closet. When they came back later, I asked the oracle if they were still there and I got "No, but..." so I rolled on the change the scene table and got "foreshadow a threat", which I interpreted as "not only did the spy escape, but the ropes appear burned, could he be a mage hiding his powers...?"  (magic is forbidden and powerful in this game's setting)

Another example: You want to determine if an NPC likes another so you ask "Is Lord Pembroke on friendly terms with the King?" and get "Yes, But..." and then I rolled on event seeds and got "Conflict". I interpret these as "Lord Pembroke and the King are on friendly terms usually, but recent events have forced them into conflict with each other"

Hi man, I'm a member of the Italian community "Ruolatori Solitari" (Solitaire roleplayers), I found your "Solo toolkit" very interesting and I would like to translate/revisit it in Italian for the community.

If there are no problems for you, I would publish it on my itch.io (only the Italian version) as a free offer, possibly I would put in the description the link to your original version in English and a thank to you in the text, is it possible? Thanks in advance

sure! Got for it

Thanks man!  A few days and i'll upload it!

Hi man, i uploaded the italian version to my page. Thanks again!

I have another question:
In a couple spots, you're able to get an 'encounter' or a 'small encounter' result. But there is no definition or table for those. What do you recommend?

(2 edits)

I kept stuff like that vague so you could apply it to whatever game system you were playing, but I like to use the “small encounter” for stuff like finding an NPC or finding a small group of goblins or smth. Whatever would count as as a minor event.

For example, in my current game the characters are exploring tunnels under a mine. I rolled small encounter and they encountered a group of rock goblins who wouldn’t let them pass without a toll. They could have fought and probably easily killed them but who knows how many more would come? The characters just decide to pay the toll and move on.

In that same dungeon later, I rolled a regular encounter which the oracle said would be “challenging” so I found myself facing a giant rock monster that killed two hirelings and crippled a PC ;(

As far as inspo for what the encounter could be, I recommend you just use the encounter tables for the game/system you’re playing.

That's great guidance. Thanks for such a fantastic product!

This thing truly is the ultimate! Great work!
Any chance you'd do a layout in A5 or A6 single pages? It would be really great to be able to print it up as a booklet in Adobe Acrobat instead of having to tape two pocket mods together!

I’ll see what I can do!

I Uploaded a Booklet version!

Wow!!! You're incredible

happy to help lol

This works exceptionally well with your Blank Hex Map. Thank you for sharing.

This is incredible!! Just fits in my little solo kit. Highly recommended!

(+3)

Oh my god I'm in love with this! I think I'll actively use it in any exploration-based games even if they aren't solo because it's such a great tool!

(+3)

Thanks! You make a good point this would be useful for a GM too

(+2)

This looks cool, but it would also be nice to have a pages/spreads PDF format so that it's usable on a screen too.

(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! I’ll upload a vertical and horizontal spread view tonight. There currently 1 page versions in the PDF too that aren’t a pocketmod too btw, may work for digital needs. Though I think it’s flipped upside down by accident.

(+1)

Ahh I see them now-- it wasn't clear because they're all in the same file, so I would need to first split the pages out and then flip them

(+1)

I updated the files on the project so you could just redownload the “horizontal” one  and be set I think :)
