Fire personnel with the Los Angeles County Fire Department are investigating the cause of a residential fire that occurred on Saturday afternoon on the 27400 block of Cherry Creek Drive, off Seco Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, according to a spokesman with the Fire Department.
The structure fire was reported at 2:29 p.m. and units arrived at the scene of the incident approximately five minutes after the initial call, said L.A County Supervising Fire Dispatcher Bernard Peters during initial reports on Saturday.
“It’s a single-family dwelling and we have a little fire in the attic,” Peters said just after 3 p.m. “They’re having a little trouble getting that out right now. But they don’t have any injuries reported.”
In a followup phone call with The Signal on Sunday, Peters said that units declared knockdown at 3:45 p.m. and a partial roof collapse was reported.
According to Peters, no one was evacuated from the premises, stating that occupants of the home may have already been outside when the fire occurred. No injuries were reported.
The fire was contained, and nearby homes were not threatened as a result of the blaze, he added.
As multiple firefighters attacked the blaze that quickly began to consume a large part of the home, nearby residents trickled out to witness the scene. Heavy smoke filled the clear sky and could be seen as far as Decoro Drive and Santa Clarita Park.
Occupants of the home declined to comment regarding the incident. On Sunday morning, parts of the house had visible damage covered in a charred exterior with the collapsed roof as the smell of smoke still lingered from the day before.
